Jay- Z - 99 Problems (Randols Grimey Remix)

Post by randol35 » Fri Jun 08, 2012 5:57 am

Just finished this remix, I need some feedback on my basses/drums/overall sound quality. Been working really hard at getting mastering down with ozone, so let me know what you think! thanks!

The snare is very odd, sounds like someone spitting and doesn't have any real weight to it. The kick is likewise a bit on the flat side, got that wet cardboard feel to it. Not a fan of the vocal processing you add around 57s, makes it a bit unlistenable.

Yeah same as wub, the kick and snare really stood out as being flat, as well as not really having any character
I like some of those pads and synths though :W:
That vocal processing is bit harsh - I like it more natural myself. If you're set on having it, then maybe make it a bus send so you can also hear the natural vocal too

damn i worked super hard on the kick and snare too, all layered up and bussed them together with layers and all that good stuff... i wonder if they just got compressed too much in my mastering stage or something...

sounds like that could be the problem - sometimes if compression is used too much it can make certain sounds really flat, that kick and snare sound really powerfully over compressed - something to work on :)

Ok well do you guys think you can download the .wav and listen really good and give me a tip or two on what to do with my snare? (im not worried about the kick, its muffled in my compression so i can fix that) but this snare has been bothering me for literally a month and im just not at all sure what to do to get it to stand out more in the max and not sound like someone spitting. im going to PM you guys too to ask just because this snare is driving me crazy and i need to fix it. thanks in advance.
