Can i directly plug them into my pc by buying

or do i have to buy one of those external sound cards?
im kind of a noob when it comes to monitors and external stuff

Never thought about doing that to a headphone jack, hmmm..
Best bet would certainly be to get an interface mate, honestly it's so worth it. You don't want to be running your pc's soundcard because its most probably shit like most peoples.

Get the alesis I02 interface which plugs into your computer via USB. You can then run the audio from the computer, through the interface, out to the monitors. That particular interface is very small, cheap, and has 2 XLR inputs.. L and R

An external soundcard will give you less latency which allows you to use a MIDI controller effectively, you'l also be using an ASIO driver for the audio which will eat less CPU

I plug my Krk RP6's into my headphone jack using a converter. I only do this because I lost my firewire cable to hook up my firepod and use it as my audio interface. It WILL work fine, but IMO it will sound better if you get an external soundcard and plug them in correctly.

Maybe you should have thought ahead and budgeted that in before buying your KRK's.

You could buy used. In my experience interfaces rarely die. I've used the same one for 5 years.
