Fed up with older songs/wips

Post by outdropt » Thu Jun 14, 2012 2:50 pm

Ever say screw it and delete all your old shit off of sound cloud. Some of the stuff i had on my sound cloud was from a few months ago, i just posted a WIP and compared it to the stuff i was putting out and there was no contest. Some WIP i put together in 3 days is X10 better then some of the songs i worked on a few months ago, some of which took me allotted, 15 hours give or take.

I just didnt want to associate my self with some of the work i "put out". Obviously it was necessary, otherwise i wouldn't be at the point i am today but i felt it was necessary to wash my hands of it and start fresh.

I've deleted countless WIPs and previews off my soundcloud. Whenever I upload a good song, that I know will get a lot of exposure I try to make sure my SC page is as clean and good looking (or sounding for that matter) as possible, to show consistency.

In response to you saying that your WIP you put together in 3 days, or whatever sounding better than something you may of worked on for an extended period of time, you said it was 'a few months ago'. Some of the stuff I produced a couple of months ago sounds like shit to me now, you get better quick.

I'm kinda the different, I have a hard time deleting my old music from SC, etc. I hate it when I go on a producer I like's SC and they've only got 3 songs up and no way to find their other stuff.

Yeah, my production quality/mixing/etc. has gotten better since then, but my older tracks aren't complete and utter shit, and they still bring in views.

I look at it from a band-aspect. You don't see bands looking back at their first album like "Wow, we sucked!", usually their first album is the best. I don't get all the hate for your early music unless you really didn't know what you were doing and just started music in general. I had played guitar and been in bands for a few years before I started up ISM, so I don't feel my early stuff is that bad really, it's lacking my current production knowledge but it's still decent compositionally, and I've had people, even now, telling me how much they enjoy some of my earlier tracks.

I still listen to and love my early work though. The lack of production knowledge is "charming" I think.

Keep in mind I rarely write your standard "EDM" stuff, it really is different between EDM producers and more "headphone" oriented producers like myself.

If your newest track is good, I'm not gonna lose respect for you because a track you made 2 years ago isn't as "complex".

Just my $.02.
