i need a cs-80
those classic sounds, but once again in spite on having the sounds no one comes close to what the orig did with it
fucking tools in the hands of a master
Re: i need a cs-80
Apparently mate i read the arturia soft plug sound is meant to be pretty damn close.Like i said before i have it but just never really got into it.
Re: i need a cs-80
My mouth began to water when I listened to the demos (@128kbps or whatever it was) on their site. I need to get on that 15 day demo, and sample the hell out of it...lloydy wrote:Apparently mate i read the arturia soft plug sound is meant to be pretty damn close.Like i said before i have it but just never really got into it.
2 keyboards 1 computer

Re: i need a cs-80
I have used it for pads in one of my tracks and did like it,my one complaint would be that the gui is a bit on the small side on my screen.I honestly love that vangelis sound and would love to be able to programme the cs-80v to mimic him,i'll maybe make a couple of weeks where i just learn it inside out,it is laid out pretty simple but you need a fucking magnifying glass to use it.3za wrote: My mouth began to water when I listened to the demos (@128kbps or whatever it was) on their site. Re: i need a cs-80
That vangelis vid you posted deadly has a proper pink floyd vibe to it!!!
Re: i need a cs-80
never really felt vangelis. can't see what all the fuss is about.... but i love old digital synths! my friend has a DX7... yup.... sick to jam with

Re: i need a cs-80
I've been thinking about this synth lately, ilove the blade runner soundtrack too. I was wondering if any of you had experience making hardware synths? How tough would it be to make a cs80 today from scratch? Circuit diagrams are freely available and i'm sure a lot of the components will have been miniaturised by now. And with modern tech, it might even stay in tune longer.
But then, the cs80 was 100kg of circuits, so i'd imagine it'd be pretty tough to replicate.
I wouldn't mind having a crack at building an analog synth just for fun, but i'd start with something much more simple first.

ben (paradigm x) is one of the few on here who i know fabricates his own stuff, know some other guys not on this board, but the task of making a cs80 from scratch would be daunting and probably more expensive just parts wise than getting a hold of a second hand one

Re: i need a cs-80
It would make an interesting project to say the least. Usually electrical components are pennies each, but i have no idea how many resistors, transistors capacitors etc would be needed for a project like this. I studied a bit of electronics years ago but don't know much about it now so it'd definitely be pretty hard to do.
There's a cs80 on ebay for £8000/$12000, that's a lot more than i'd want to spend. And considering i wouldn't even have a clue how to tune it, i don't think i'd get a lot of use from it. This is the only reason i was thinking if it'd be possible to just copy the circuits and maybe use more modern components. I'd probably just buy a midi keyboard with aftertouch to use with it, i know some of the cs80s have been retrofitted with midi so its possible.
I think i'll start with something much more simple, such as a mono synth or maybe a simple filter and see how it goes.

Re: i need a cs-80
heh old analog synths use old analog circuits which are rare
it's why x0xb0xs go for so much
same goes for old tubes

Re: i need a cs-80
i have the Arturia CS-80v and it is my favorite synth for comping and pads by far. Definitely worth it
Re: i need a cs-80
I'd say building a cs-80 clone would be fairly difficult...

yeah but i was a lego badman, space ships with moving parts and shit
Re: i need a cs-80
yah i really like the emulation. the sub-oscillators make it more analog sounding than any other virtual synth i have tried.
The programming can be quite fiddly, still dont know how to set a non volatile velocity setting
obviously a lot different from the actual cs80 tho, but its very nice in its own way.
