Okay so recently local people have started noticing me and are interested in booking me for gigs. I plan on using a controller with a laptop. I want something that will last me the longest, and won't crap out on me. Also not trying to spend over $1,000. Thanks.

Any laptop will work. I'd stay around 15 inches or below though, you don't want something huge. Macs are the style and have solid state drives but they are overpriced imo. I have a 15 inch hp pavilion dv6 with i7 quad core and I love it, the only problem I have with it is it gets really hot after a while.

macs don't come with solid state drives

but they are still incredibly reliable which would be the way to go for djing

They're really all the same, but Macs look the coolest.

You can go with the Air and chain everything on. Plus it's lightweight, so you could probably throw it in the same bag as all your cables and mounts and whatever.

I'm using the full MacBook for most of my stuff, but the Air in itself is a full-flegdged Mac (albeit with some performance qualms because of the size, such as needing an external CD drive), but it is especially entry-level.

Apple stuff doesn't tend to crap out too much, and the only problems I've had with my MacBook in two years are minor cosmetic faults.

It doesn't really matter what the laptop is as ther performance requirements are pretty low for most programmes. I use an old refurbished acer from PC World which has never had any problems. What's more important is ensuring the settings are optimized for performance and keeping it off the internet.

Consider "Business" laptops as well. (Lenovo, etc). More emphasis on reliability and security than with stuff marketed to students

I've had my acer aspire for about a year and it's worked out just dandy. I've never owned a mac because they're just too expensive for my budget.

Macbook is probably your best bet.

How did you get noticed without any gear?

Any good laptop should be ok, but as others have said get an ssd drive. They're immune to vibrations and are much more suited to a noisy club environment.

btw i have a 250gb ssd i highly recommend them, if you have the cash

Come on, they're not THAT expensive. Wouldn't hurt to have one though...
