Benga doesn’t ‘want to be any part of dubstep anymore’

enga, one third of bass-group Magnetic Man has told NME that he doesn’t ’want to be any part of dubstep anymore’.

When questioned why the genre pioneer added ”I’ve been seen to say that dubstep is the music of our generation, but that’s now changed. I believe now that certain artists are the future, I don’t want to be any part of dubstep anymore.”

“I think it’s been the fastest genre to become solidified. The only reason dubstep has a bad rep is because it’s become a trend.”

Those artists he’s speaking of are a rather unconventional group of people with Skrillex, Mumford & Sons and of course Magnetic Man getting the nod as being this generations sound!

Candidly adding ”What a weird group of people, can you imagine us all in a room together?”

As we see it, maybe he’s right, that you don’t have to be attached to any particular genre to be a celebrated artist, that genres don’t define anyone anymore.

The trio should have a single out before the end of the year as they work hard in the studio towards a full-length album.

Benga will also be out for this years Parklife Festival alongside The Presets, Justice and Nero.

Meh, his recent output has been pretty poor anyways, not overly fussed

They also namecheck Skrillex as one of the "artists of [their] generation"

Leaving dubstep lol. I guess we'll all need to pitch in for a farewell gift of some sort.

Would be interesting to see what direction he takes. Couldn't be worse than what he's been knocking out lately.

Good luck with the the next fad

You'd think that if anyone knew that Skrillex was a watered down version of Vex'd and Coki, it'd be him. Seems kinda disrespectful to them to call him 'the future'. Oh well, to each their own. It's not like 'dubstep' was still paying attention to him since 2009 anyway.

LOL, exactly. Thanks for Skank and Star Wars. In a bit Benga.

Perhaps if we all wish hard enough, we can pretend dubstep never existed. :H:

not really fussed. when did he last put out a decent track anyway? Not trying to sound like a 'hipster', but sounds like he's going more mainstream and giving up on trying to make decent underground music.]
