And I was wondering, how exactly do I automate EQ like that to get those vowel sounds that I want? This guy seems to know which envelope shapes for frequency, resonance and EQ give a certain vowel sounds.. Any tips/help?

But I think it actually depends on the frequency of the original tone.

You can save these settings as presets.

What I do is I boost a few frequency bands and assign their frequency to a macro knob. Then I just go into the fine tuning and tune the exact frequencies to get different sounds out of it. basically i like to right click and group the EQ so i can assign stuff to one knob to make it more intuitive and qiuick.


btw not to change the subject but i was really liking the kick drum on that example beat. specifically the sub part of it. i've heard that in pendulum tracks and stuff. I can never get that sub type kick, and to be honest i don't always know where to use it.. I think it might clash with my sub bass parts . anyone good with that?

...You mean an 808 kick (with a long tail)? I'm confused, it's literally just a sign wave like any other sub bass note. Just layer it under a kick high passed at about 80-100 hz so its natural sub frequencies to clash with the sine wave. Then you just draw out a sub note to taste, short to make a punchy boom or long (and adjust the sine wave's release to make it feel natural) to get the 808ish decay.
