It's finally the time I can buy my own laptop.
I decided to buy Samsung RF511 with 8 gb ram, Intel Core i7-2630QM 2.00 - 2.90 GHz processor, 640gb HDD (windows 7)
Will it do for music production?

I've used their hard drives in the past and they often fail.

I think you can produce anything with that computer

I'd look to get a SSD in there too somewhere. Your system will be faster overall and you can also install your VSTs onto it so your DAW will respond super fast to everything
Oh, and of course get the Ivy Bridge i7.

I'd actually go with an i5 2500k. i7s are kind of a waste of money considering my songs with 200+ tracks still dont push my CPU over 25%. And thats without overclocking enabled.

And get at least a tb. Music projects fill up your hard drive fast. Wouldn't bother with an ssd either when you could buy a couple spinning drives instead for the same price. As long as its 7200rpm you'll be fine, especially because youre already running a brand new rig.

My i5 Sandybridge is a workhorse of note.
