how and where to promote?

I'm an LD at a club near ATL and was told I could try having a Skillex party (Skrillex won't be there), but have no idea how to try to promote it. I've seen the promo forums here and will try to follow their format, and if I interpreted correctly it's okay to post here too if I follow that format. Is that true? Can anyone suggest what else to try? There probably aren't a lot of readers from ATL in this forum, but maybe there are other places that would be better. How to find them if so?
Thanks for any help!
David

You won't get any positive responses or help from around these parts if you're trying to organisae a "skrillex party", in fact i imagine you're about to get flamed savagely and then this thread will get merged with the brostep thread...

give out flyers at other local shows where your target audience might be, put up loads of posters around your town, maybe get students to sell tickets for a comission.
This will be your one helpful post!
Don't call it a skrillex party though, that sounds like an awful night!

I thought that was a skrillex gig though?
Seriously though Pinup was spot on and facebooks probably gonna be the easiest way of reaching as many people as possible. Make sure your flyer looks decent as well

Not to flame, but I think you're posting this on the wrong sub section, of the wrong section, of the wrong forum in general

We want to attract people who like Skrillex, and discourage people who don't. So far the people I've mentioned it to in person do like Skrillex, and think a Skrillex party sounds like a good idea. Those are the people we want, not people who can't appreciate him. And we SURE don't want a bunch of people to get the wrong idea and come waste everyone's time and money with something they won't like. Better to have a small happy crowd than a larger unhappy one.

So far it seems that leaves a lot of room for potential improvement. Where do you think would be better?

im really not up to date on where fans of skrillex would congregate, all im aware of is that this forum hates the guy and therefore most advice surrounding anything to do with him will likely be in farce

Wouldn't a skrillex gig be something that he would actually attend? And then someone would have to pay him $100K or however much? On sort of a side note, I wonder how lame a turnout he would have if he actually played our club but with no better promotion than whatever I'm able to pull off for this thing. Just word of mouth about him coming around here would probably get the place filled up, imo (we can hold about 4K).
How and where on Facebook? I've been trying to avoid Facebook, not being a very sociable sort personally and also never having fooled with any sort of promotion before. I don't even know how to make a flyer...yet...

Wait, so you want a gig that's LIKE Skrillex, but without him? Like, a Skrillex tribute band?
But seriously, more background is needed. If you're just throwing a dubstep party get a bunch of good local DJs and book Joe Nice if you're (I'm assuming) in the States. Affordable and will be 10000x better than Skrillex.

Oh right, you said you were from ATL...
trust, there are much better things you could be doing with your time than trying to book Skrillex Lite. Just do your own thing, don't follow.

On some nights we only have a DJ. It's hard as hell to get them to play Skrillex, even though a lot of people I've talked to like it. Last week for example the DJ gave a big build up, stomping all over the intro to "Cinema" saying something about how Atlanta loves dubstep, then only played half the song. And that was all the Skrillex he played all night. So this is for people who want a good 90 minute set of it. If not enough people seem interested we won't do it, and if we do and no one likes it we won't do it again. That's the plan so far, anyway.

I've been through that one in this forum before and it never went anywhere, but if you can suggest some particular songs you believe are better than Skrillex then I'd be interested in checking them out. I've tried that in the past but though people don't seem to mind talking badly about Skrill, they also have never suggested anything I thought was better and usually they couldn't suggest anything at all.

Yeah you don't want a whole night of just one artists music, that would suck balls!
Just book a load of local DJs who play tearout.
