Tympanista - Pregame (Harsh dubstep/drumstep[?], dnb)

Soundcloud

Need help with mix/track levels! Are the levels good at all?

Not much effects, eq, or compression(none). Suggestions about anything are welcome.

I can't comment much on the levels since I'm new at that stuff too, but you have quite the dissonance going at around 2:14 with the minor bass contrasting with the happy-go-lucky major synth up top. I can't say it's good or bad because I don't know if it was your intended effect, but it's unusual at least. I liked the Nintendo-like sounds that came in at 0:45.

Sounds like Timpani and Bassnectar. Nothing stands out as terrible, but you might benefit from:

1. Panning, or the haas effect. Wider sounds in moderation really help the overall piece.
2. Stronger kick and snare. You could use sidechain compression if the snare is being covered up by bass sounds. When two sounds are in the same frequency range, they'll cloud each other.

I really like that you used a ton of breaks and spent time on this. Good job.

OSHIBKA:
The bass in the section your'e talking about was meant to be that way, even though it is off-key. There definitely is some nasty dissonance going on between the lower harmonics/fundamentals now that you point it out. I'm cutting that stuff out with some eq. Should sound better mix-wise now.

Yeah! Old school game sounds are pretty cool. There's actually another synth or sample player (I forget) playing some NES sounds, too.

You mean the sound of my name or the music? haha It's cool either way.

Panning and widening for sure, and a "hells yeah!" to strengthening the kick and snare!

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement!
