yup, you guys should be thankful. shit is terrible down here in Brazil, Peru or Paraguay, your cops don't even have guns. crime is a constant of the human behavior, it will always happen to a minimum.

reminds me of www.ratemycop.com

The only similar one for UK I knew of is the system from a few years back where the police in London encouraged people to report how their interaction went via SMS. Dunno what ever happened to that though.

i certainly see your point

but Brazil is a developing country with a gigantic population, virtually no middle class and an almost feudal socio-economic structure so its not really sensible to look at the two in that respect

the UK is supposedly one of the most developed countries in the world, and for its police to be involved in anything near the level of crime in that list IS shocking, cynical 'realism' aside

by reading that list, most of the crimes comes from drug culture, personal conduct and sexual behavior. It will always occur, no matter how developed the country in question is and they sure aren't exclusive to the police corporation. Authority sure plays a role, but not a critical one. Just my criminological 2 cents.

a) you just described most crime in general

b) the POLICE force who are meant to enforce law and prevent most crime in general shouldn't be committing any crime whatsoever

i dont even think this is idealism - the police in a 'western' super developed society should be the shining pinnacle of upstanding law and order. It is shocking when police men and women are charged and convicted of crimes like paedophilia, murder, rape and assault.

of course crime occurs wherever you are, but when you live in the UK its not unfair to expect the police to refrain from committing it themselves...

I think it was Enrico Ferri that once said that if it wasn't by the law, the vast majority of the population would be criminals. You can train an individual to refrain himself from comitting a crime, but you can't guarantee that he will be able to resist the temptation or a pathological condition. Following that argument of yours, if you live in the UK, it's not unfair to expect that the citizens will abide the law, but yet we see illegal drugs discussions and consumers on this very forum all the time. Point is, it's fine. It won't ruin anyones life nor it will shake the foundations of the great island if a small portion of the police corporation committed a crime.

Please don't take me rude, I mean no offense, my opinion regarding this matter is obviously partial. :Q:

Do you think you could go through life never committing any crime Noam? Why would you hold someone else to a higher standard? Never committing any crimes is impossible it's human nature.
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

The role of the police is to enforce the social order created by the elite... So you know, they're all morally suspect.

i dont think the "offences" all are official legal designations, or is "Stole sergeant's iPod and gave it to woman he met on Facebook" an actual offence in the UK ? :6:

Depressing, but not overly unexpected. I'm somewhere between hircine and noam on this one... unfortunately policing will always be a desirable career for those who want to exploit the power; at least some of the bad eggs are getting rumbled and convicted.

I see the Simon Harwood one isn't quite up to date... charged with manslaughter... let off.
