Why size krks?

Post by Inkei91 » Fri Aug 03, 2012 3:55 pm

I've heard a lot about krks and took a trip to my local guitar center to test them out. I tried the 5,6 and 8's but the only ones who hit that subbass(dubstep) were the 8's but still barely. Idk if it's because I have 2x12's in my car and I'm used to feeling the bass like a hole in my chest or what. Any suggestions?

Well they're not for jamming out, they're for referencing.

I have the 8s.

Are there any monitors in the $250 range that have a lower and maybe wider range than the 8s?

yea i know they are for referencing but i wanna be able to hear what my sub bass is gonna sound like like below 40hz. i tested alot of other speakers there at gc only one pair had a good lower range but they were pretty expensive. i was thinking about that sub too, i read alot of forums saying that for a small room(wich i am in) it is unnecessary. im pretty new at producing and mixing my own stuff so im kinda clueless. but from common sense i would think you would wanna hear the "real" mix and that includes all frequencys that humans can hear

I'd suggest getting a pair of monitors just for reference then mixing on a pair of quality headphones. That's what I do.

You don't want your monitors sounding like the sub in your car. I assume you turn the bass up way more than it should be for attention and that's not good for producing. You want a clean response, not added bass or tweak this. You get what I'm saying.

^ that plus.. Why would you want your sub below 40 hz? That's below the sweet spot :W:

And if you do decide to get a monitor and sub, I'd suggest getting them professionally tuned so that the low end goes only to the sub. You could try yourself, but it won't be perfect.

The Rokit 6 is 49 so you shouldn't need a sub.

It's alright. The size of your room also matters. Having a small monitor in a large room isn't going to give you the best results. And from experience, a lot of small monitors sound like shit when you turn them up. I'd stick with the 6 if you can afford it. I have the 8s but I hope some day to have a pair of ADAM A77X.

It's all preference. If you're doing dubstep, find one with a low frequency range.

I don't know much on headphones as I've only owned 2 pairs. Other people here could help you with that.

But since Im a Shure fan, get the SRH840. 5HZ-25kHZ range. I have the 440 and they're a bit heavy, but really comfortable and covers your entire ear so you hear no background noise.

I turn the bass down completely in the car and it's still way too loud.
Stock system.

My brother had a $3,500 custom system and had it turned all the way up. All you heard was the kick vibrating. I was like why the fuck would somebody spend $3,500 to listen to shit.

I don't have a sub or amp, but I spent $1,750 on a real quality system. I prefer a crisp sound more than overpowered bass.
