Do you know how you want your song to sound before producing it?

Yea I know I don't! I watched video with bassnectar and he said since his speakers got stolen out of his car, he never replaced it, and would just hum to him self and turn those melodies and such to a song.

I know the Feel it will have.
The actual music may change once I start playing with the synths, but if I set out to do a dark future garage tune, that's what I'll end up with.

I always get inspired by something,
vocals, chords, drum beat, ect. Now that i know whats going on its easier for me to think of something and "put it on paper". A lot of the time i think of things while im not in my room so i try to whistle the melody, or if its a sample from a song ill ill take it down in my phone.

Hardly ever, most I'll come up beforehand is a drum beat which I never manage to fully transcribe to midi

I generally make a song around one thing - a vocal, chord seq or synth patch.

I've never started a song that came out the same vibe. I miserably fail to create the tune I start out to make, but usually come up with something better/different

I don't think I've ever conciously sat down and thought "Right, going to write a tune"...my tracks just start off as dicking around in the DAW sessions which evolve to a point where I think I could do something with them to take them further and they go from there.

The best tunes are always the ones I think in my head and am able to replicate on my DAW quickly. So yeah, I try and do this whenever I can.
Doesn't often turn out like that though. Often I can't get the sound I want or it just ends up being something else due to just going off on a tangent.
Just go with the flow really

I am going to try doing this some time.
