Just wondering...

If I setup a seperate Soundcloud account for the Production group to act as a showcase and a place to post the competition entries etc, is that something that you might be interested in?

Wouldn't mind setting it as a Solo account to handle volume of tracks, and the unlimited downloads would mean that people could have additional hosting/promotion without worrying about that 100 limit that the Free account does.

Thoughts?

It's not a bad idea to consolidate all the comps into one Soundcloud.
Good for nostalgia and it'll keep things organized.

What I'm thinking, yeah.

Individual 'set' for each contest, can keep things archived for a few months at least, depending on size/number of entries, then can host the winners of each contest indefinitely in a seperate winners 'set'.

Would folks just get at you to upload or will you provide the username and password?

I guess we'd need to have 'moderators' of sorts, 2-3 people across different time zones who have access to it.

If the password was just given out, there wouldn't be anything to stop people deleting other tracks or bumping their own using the spotlight feature etc.

Maybe start by voting 10 tunes in then each month everyone voting in 2 - 3 more or so. Quality control is needed so it doesnt fall to shit.

I voted no, mainly because at this point it seams kinda vague. What is the upload process? Another area of concern is the self promotion thing.. Personally I think that'll flop pretty hard seeing as there is already a dubs board, however broken that is.

I wouldn't want any of my "tunes" on there because they're still pretty weak, but i think it will be pretty cool for people who wanna get their music heard.

Could ask people leaving feedback before they upload their tunes...would be easy to check via the SC comments setting.


But I'm open for suggestions. If nothing else, it'd be a stable platform for contest submission hosting/archiving

There is already a dedicated sc for the comps- on phone atm but i think its /dsfcomp or similar.

Could use this as a base for the rest of the stuff, with a name change if wanted, as it already has all the old comp winners and some followers

Yeah the archiving and general collection would be interesting. Is it much different than a group? Like the Secret Ninja Dubs group? I guess other than the archive thing, since people can't delete them willingly. Though there would need to be a system in case someone wants one taken off, or it gets signed or they make a new version or something. I think it could get a bit hard to keep track of, so some selected moderators type thing is a good idea.

Well, the production showcase thing sounded cool, i can pm you the email and password if you dont already have them, then you could run the sample pack comp on there/ rename it dsfprodshowcase or whatever?

I said no as I didn't read the OP before hand and assumed it was another place for people to just drop tracks and cut like the dubs section.

What you've suggested there though, that's special. I like the sound of something like this.

It's a nice idea. This way, we could easily browse through every competition or make tune of the year comps and so on. +1 yes

Ive not voted yet but someone would need to decide what skill/musical level it would have to meet ..a bit of quality control
