Thought's on these headphones?

Post by Italus » Thu Aug 16, 2012 5:39 am

Ok, so I am on a very tight budget and I need mixing/monitoring heaphones. I'm tired of using Turtle Beach gaming headsets, lol. :6:
I've been searching quite a bit and I found that these have the best reviews.

Any other suggestions? My budget has to be under $50, because that's all I have. :?

They look cheap as hell, but they may get the job done... I'd still wait a bit and get some pretty decent ones like the Shure SRH440's are great for budget headphones.

I know that this doesn't really fit in your budget but I just gotta say it: Grado SR60s are really great and the quality/price ratio is one to absolutely consider. Do a quick google search on it!

I saw these. I wish I could get something more than $50 but that's all I have.

I saw these mentioned a few days ago... Supposedly, they're really good except a tad high-heavy:

Yeah I was actually just looking at these. Except there weren't many reviews from producers on how good they are for mixing, so I wasn't too sure.

yeah there aren't many reviews on those but iv used the hd681's for a month or so, i like them a lot even for mixing down.
it was a gamble me buying them and not know what they truely sound like before hand (but £20 / $30 is cheap).
they definitely get the job done and sound decent, when i say decent i mean a lot better than those shitty beats by dre.
i aint gona make a review but moving from some of the headphones in the world (sennheiser hd650) down to these.. i don't feel bad about it :)

I have the m35s which are very similar to those. They aren't cheaply built at all, they're really decent quality. I think the picture is a bit misleading.

according to sound on sound they're good for tracking (listening to a backing track when recording guitars or drums) but not for mixing - http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan10/a ... phones.htm

IMO i would save up and get the ath m50s instead if you want audio technica headphones or a pair of AKG K240s

^^ Hah. But yeah, even if you manage to get signed in the next couple weeks doesn't guarantee adequate income for buying better gear.

Producers on tiny record labels don't exactly live the most extravagant lives

Well my manager is going to see if he can get me in to Monstercat or Section Z I'n a few weeks I just need to finish my new track. He also knows Cody Meltzer who is the manager for Stratus and has worked with Krewella and LoBounce, he also works for React Presents. :o
I'm not expecting to get signed yet, I was kind of exaggerating when I said a few weeks. Maybe more realistically, a year or something like that, so I can get more practice in. My track is basically finished I just need to get the mixdown a little better, so that's why I want some decent headphones. And yeah even if I do get on some kind of label whether it be small or big I'm not expecting to make much money, maybe just enough for me to save up for some krk monitors. :6:
Anyway, right now I'm trying to decide between those Audio Technicas and Superlux. The one thing I dont like about the Technicas is that you have to buy an adapter if you want to plug it into a laptop or something. But it has a ton of good reviews, and the Superlux I've heard some really good things about but it's only from a few people. Its a hard decision. I wish they were at like Best Buy or something where I could actually try them. :u:

A lot of headphones will require a 1/4 to 1/8 jack converter

Thanks I completely forgot about looking in a guitar center. And I what I meant about the jack converter is that most headphones include the adapter that goes from 1/8 to 1/4 and you simply screw the 1/4 off and you have a the smaller plug. But with these you have to use it the opposite way so it goes from 1/4 to 1/8 you end up have this ugly super long plug sticking out the side of your computer. :/

I also found these on the "Huge Guide to Dubstep Production" thread.

I have an ugly super long plug sticking out of my computer it's not that bad

I'd rather save up and buy some headphones with a flat response and will last a while. $200 should be plenty to get a GOOD starter set.

Too late, I just bought the Audio Technicas. Hopefully they are decent and will hold up until I can get something better, Amazon has a good return survice so if they aren't that great then I can send 'em back. I will update when I get them in. Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it! :)
