I was wondering how producers (such as 5 and a Dime (who? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP032ZSu80U) where creating mash-ups. They listen to alot of brostep, find a sound or two form each of their favourite tunes and create a drop while using those sounds (of course in their original tone). Thing that I didn't figure out yet is how they are capable of getting such samples? There will always be a drum in the sound, and you can't just copy the tune up in FL, take off your sequence and copy paste it straight into your mashup ; the drum won't be the same, sound wise and tempo wise.
If any of you guys worked on such mash-ups (not just taking a vocal and another tune and stacking both together), i would really appreciate some feedback on this. I wanted to try my luck in mash-up producing since my piano skills are at an laughable state and I can't write any ''melody''with green rectangles on an virtual piano. And if the answer is : they use non-drum instrumentals, well where do they get such things? do you need to contact the original producer? Cause I seriously doubt this dude with 100k views really worked it out with skrillex, just doesn't seem right.
Sync the tracks up and cut between them where it sounds good, or use the EQ and layer different parts

mhm you misunderstood me, i was not talking about those kind of mash-ups. the ones i'm talking about is where you create the whole tune using nothing but little parts from different songs, not just shifting between two rolling playing tunes on the deck. I know i could focus on one sound, find different parts of it in the tune and hope that they don't have the drum in it to then paste them and create the whole sound, but that sounds like alot of f$cking arround for little results, besides mentioning that it's not as easy as it seems to remake the sound like a puzzle. is there any way which is more effective than cutting piece of the sounds and then reassembling them together to get just that 1 sec synth?
thanks!

So you want to build a track made from bits of other peoples songs?
Sounds promising

hes asking how to make a mash up. you all know what the fuck he means... if i knew how, id help him but i dont, maybe for once the boards could stop being a bunch of pretencious cocks and actually help someone out and leave out the not so witty comments if you dont know? it seems if you dont have at least x amount of posts you get treated like a jackass on these boards. funny for a little bit, gets old quite quick however

Ableton you could this in...get the songs you want, chop them up into their individual component parts, then arrange playback via the Live loops triggering thing.
FL10 might offer similar capabilities, but I can't speak for the live functions on that I'm afraid
Incidentally, Madeon does something very similar to this using electro/french house/pop songs;
Again, a matter of getting all the individual parts of the songs and then jamming along them...in this case using the Launchpad MIDI controller to trigger things on the fly.
I doubt if this was his 'first' attempt however, so it may be a case of practice makes perfect for the live side of things. Alternatively, if you're less interested in doing it in a live manner, you could spend the time (again, using Ableton) to warp all the tracks to the same BPM (say, 140) and then doing the aforementioned chopping and rearranging them, like a collage in the playlist. Again, trial and error

He doesn't want to do a live mashup apparently

Ah sorry
(I don't see the point in not doing it live, much less impressive and interesting)

wow that madeon vid is really impressive, cool stuff. if everyone that djed with a launchpad did shit like this id be much more inclined to respect them.

Yes finally someone understands! thats exactly what i want to do, thing is, how can you get the sound (lets say a YOL from a skrillex's tune) but without the drum in the back? cause if you chop off the sound, put it together with other sounds the drum will be fucked up. I tried getting lets say 3-4 samples of the same exact sound from the same tune and trying to get the parts without drums in the sound but shits take forever and it's actually pretty hard to re-arrange the sound once its all cut down, not mentionning the sequence lasts for about .5 secs.
some people do it live on the pad with squares (madeon) and other people do it on Ableton so it doesn't mess up.
Is it the only way to do it? spend countless hours chopping and cutting each sound to get the synth without drum then arrange the sounds to created the drop? is there a shortcut to this method? thanks!
i feel like this guy needs to break the 1mil view aswell.

In short, you can't. Extracting individual elements for an existing track is difficult if not impossible. You could try;
- creative EQing...but whatever you are left with will sound muddy as you'll be shaving frequencies off
- phase inversion...really only suitable for vocals, and then only if you have the dub version as well, check YouTube for a video on this
- Melodyne...expensive bit of software, in theory it can extract individual elements based on their frequency range whilst keeping everything else intact, but I've yet to see it used competently and it is pricey.

Pretty much the hours and hours method, this isn't the sort of thing you can effectively shortcut...unless the tracks you're going after (as in the Madeon video) have big breaks without their drums, but given the overtly 'busy' nature of most brostep style tracks, this seems unlikely.

ill check the bay for Melodyne, thx for the input. But seems like no one really knows how madeon nor 5a&adime extract their samples. if nothing works, i guess theres no other choices than spending hours extracting and chopping everysingle sound. if someone knows another program to spare me some time, feel free to shoot below( also if you know any explanatory video concerning the subject post it, ive yet to come across such tutorial) . ty dsf for the help
