For the sixth Mixmag Live show we welcome one of the most exciting producers on the planet, Sub Focus.
Whilst he may be known primarily as a drum 'n' bass producer, his crunching dubstep drops and soaring house vibes have found fans in all corners of the bass music spectrum. His recent live set-up has also generated an incredible amount of hype with his epic visuals and hypnotic lighting displays gaining him bookings all over the world.
After the success of his self-titled album on Ram Records his last single, 'Out Of The Blue', propelled him back into the spotlight ahead of his upcoming album, which is scheduled for release later this summer. With big support from Djs like Annie Mac and Zane Lowe it's already looking to be a huge release.
Those attending the Mixmag Live with Sub Focus will also recieve a copy of the September issue of Mixmag. It will quite a collectors piece, as not only will Sub Focus star on the cover and mix the iconic cover CD - he'll aso be guest-editing ten pages of the magazine.

So.... enjoying the summer?
“Very much enjoying it, I had a run of great shows lately including Pukkelpop in Belgium and V Festival in the UK.”
Do you get to see much of it.... Or are you sporting a notorious studio tan?
“I have caught a bit of sun recently on trips to Ibiza and the Olympics.”
How has your Together residency in Amnesia Ibiza been?
“Really good so far. I have been going to house and techno nights at Amnesia for years so it's a honour to be doing a residency there. I'm trying to play a different kind of set there with more electro/techno influences. More longer mixes and less quick-fix. Tunes like Gemini 'Without You' and Metrik 'Drift' give you a flavour of what I mean.”
Ibiza has finally tuned into the power of bass, right?
“Yeah this and last season were the first times that there were regular bass music nights in the superclubs on the island. Long may it continue!”
We keep hearing about this new album! What can you tell us about it?
“It's coming along nicely. I can't wait to get it all finished. Trying to touch on all the styles that I enjoy: D&B, dubstep, house and much in between. I'm aiming for something that works as a listening experience rather than just wall to wall club bangers.”
Who's been influencing you recently?
“There's so much new music I've been enjoying lately: Grimes, Baauer, Active Child, Aluna George, the list could go on for a while!”
All eyes are on the prestigious Mixmag cover feature. 10 pages full of Sub Focus goodness... what can we expect to read when we pick it up?
“Well it's massive honour to do it for a start. I've tried to be really open about everything and keep it varied: from talking about how my live show works, what equipment I use for it, through to my favourite places to play and even my favourite shops.”
And what can we expect from this party in Village Underground? DJ set or live show?
“It's a DJ set in an intimate venue in East London with a line-up hand-picked by me including Kill The Noise and Friction. I've even got my good friend Jack - who originally gave my demo to Andy C back in the day – playing. He's an incredible house DJ.”

Tell us where else we can catch you soon! “Well the day after I hit Creamfields festival for a live show, then Amnesia Ibiza for Together on August 28. I'll also be announcing my new single soon so look out for that!”
