What do people do with them?

there are two kinds
one are those multisamples and the others are the one shots but the best use for them is always a sampler in my opinion
see them as resampled basses only difference is that somebody else did the job for you

Put them in a sampler. Once they are in your sampler you can open the piano roll on that and use it like an instrument. You might have to change it's pitch. Sometimes they come in D or A and I just pitch shift them to C so I know that no matter what key I press it will be playing the note I want. A granulizer can also be used in place of a sampler. I do that a lot.

stickin them back to back will give you one long ass bassline.. gotta make sure they glew together correctly without poping and clicking in the transition between them. some famous DnB producers use only small bass samples to make their basslines, no synths. I can be done, i've messed with it myself with mixed results.

it's when the short sample pitches up or down that starts giving no so good results when looped or glewed nack to back. I thing vengance has some that are consistant, or at least the front of the sample matches the end of the sample so looping them sounds better.

I use only one shots in samplers. I hate layered stuff and loops.

I feel like they are a cop out. They are typically included in packs labeled as construction kits. Listen to people like mord fustang, he has vengeance sample packs labeled all over his sound. I can hardly tell the difference between what was a complete sample or what he actually made. It's like you dont even have to try, just drag and drop those basslines in to your DAW and you've got a hit.

A granulizer works a lot like a sampler. You load your waveform into it, whatever that might be. I think the Fruity Granulizer accepts most lossless formats as well as MP3. I'm not going to go into the specific of granular synthesis but basically what it will do, based on the parameters you set, it will slice whatever that waveform is into tiny pieces. I think it's roughly 1-50ms. These form grains which are then played back. If you do nothing then it's going to generally sound the same as if you placed it into a normal sampler. But the result of a granulizer is something I've never been able to reproduce with just a sampler.

Most of the pads and textures I've made in my tracks have gone through a granulizer at some point. I've never been that great with synthesis and I have a few rather simple pad patches that I've made in 3xOSC. By themselves they are boring and not even worth using. But push them through a granulizer with some serious tweaking, automation, and copious amounts of different effects and the outcome is pretty great, at least in my opinion. Sometimes I even push them through a second time Just to see what happens. It's one of the few things that I actually resample, and really the only time I find resampling useful aside from just saving CPU.

When I'm using a sample, generally the granulizer is the first thing I go to.
