Video heads?

i've got a school project where i have to shoot an interview

what are the latest trends in video editing and shooting-wise, what's hip right now and how is it done?

Now days every film maker and his dog uses a Canon DSLR to shoot video. It reduces the DOF and supposedly makes it look for like real film. It was cool at first but now its just getting kinda old.

Simplest thing to do is probably use a HD Dslr with an external mike running straight in to the input of the camera. Final cut pro X is piss easy to use, but something like IMovie will probably do the job, most pros I know use Avid.

Hardest part of Avid software is registering it. If you got that down, you're well on your way.
