Ez, not sure whether this is strictly a production thread but.... can anyone recommend a decent virtual dj programme for me? Don't really hav the cash or space for decks..

Seems pretty cheesy, but I saw a guy rocking out with this software before. It was ridiculously funny how quick it beat matches and auto synchronizes. I prefer vinyl and would never use it unless I was playing some of my own tracks and wanted some feedback without getting a dub cut. The guy I saw was playing all original material, but he still felt retarded for using it.

Yo man, Abelton Live is the shit for digital mixing. Just takes a little work getting used to it (maybe look up some mixing tutorials) but it is great. I've used it for laying out a mix before I attempt to record it, just to see how it would sound. And I've seen people perform with it and the set re ridiculous. You can remix shit live so easy.

im currently using torq with the xponent controller, very happy with it but torq is not as progressed as say traktor. the one problem with torq is its pitch handling, fine for mixing but scratching it sounds a bit metalic, its something i hope they will fix in later versions, but for ease of use, portability and fun its the best ive used, ableton is great (hell i use it) but for djing i hate it, ive gone to torq & xponent for an all in one controller & soundcard, and dug out my old laptop, whole set up can sit on top of a turntables cover and set up / break down takes 2 mins - it takes my laptop about that long to boot lol!!

ableton. D/l the free fullt functioning version from there web site and have a mess. Helps if you have a hard ware controler.

There's a Computer Music special out just now on laptop dj'ing. Comes with a cd full of trial versions of all the big hitters. Worth it if you're in the market, and beats downloading all the trial versions yourself. The mag's got tutorials on them all. Get it in Smiths.

And whatever you choose, get a controller. For the money, I recommend one of these badboys.

Not intended for professional use though, jus a friggabout w/ mates or to test ur tunes in the mix against other tunes for compatibility etc.

I brought an ep out and luckily sold most of em!

But some tnuc, ripped my vinyl and slammed it on mp3!

I meant using stuff like ableton to play and improvise live sets, but I supoose it applies to looping up sections on traktor or doing anything that you can do in 2007 with new technology (instead of harking back to the 'golden era' where you paid £30 for a tune that sounds like arse after 40 plays.)

I play as much vinyl as I can but i much prefer the idea of being able to use all the tools available.

Nah mate, a small selection of tunes are available via MP3. If any tune was available, Right now there'd be no Chef, no N Type n certainly no Hatcha.
