Wav to MP3 problem

Hey everyone,
there might be topics about this but I have looked around and found none, so here's my try: today, and for the first time, I've experienced huge quality drop simply by compressing a wav to an mp3. Obviously, an mp3 file will never be as rich and full sounding as a wav, but the quality drop is too big compared to usual. Any ideas?

is it 320 mp3? if so there shouldn't be a really noticeable difference

Yes, it's 320 kbps. I also checked, nothing is on the master, and it's not clipping anytime

have you tried using different software to convert the file? Switch is a pretty good program for converting to mp3 in my experience if you need a recommendation

Always used my DAW (Pro Tools) to do everything (composing, designing sounds, mastering etc ...) and I've never had such a problem, but I might have a go at a different converter. Any other suggestions? (Thanks to ehbrums1 and 1point5 :) )
