Extracting Vocals from an already finished tune?!

Post by Peak0ck » Sun Sep 23, 2012 12:09 am

So I really want to get the vocals out of this song, AlunaGeorge - You Know You Like It (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmXZuv5BaHg). I've already tried different types of equing and it still sounds pretty shitty, any help?

Not true. If you have the EXACT same tune as an instrumental, invert the waveform and layer it over the tune, they will cancel each other out leaving only the vocals - sometimes with a little background noise but you can get rid of this through processing the 'accapella'.

Basic stuff.

"If you have the EXACT same tune as an instrumental"

and this only works if the vocals are mixed right

"Basic stuff."

The problem is that it's almost impossible to find an exact instrumental. Most of the instrumental versions of most albums I have are mixed differently to accommodate the added range taking the vocals out allows. Chances are if someone ripped just the vocals out and released a song, you'd be able to find the acapella as well.
