Creating the Xilent synth swell type sound
Hey guys, I've already messed around with the amp and filter ADSR settings within my desired synth plug, and am able to get quite close to re-creating the movement i'd like. I'm not too concerned with the actual sound, I only care about the swelling type characteristic of the sound. As i said, iv'e come quite close using ADSR settings on the amp and filter portion of my synth plug, but would like to really get it exactly similar. Any input on how you would go about creating this movement would be greatly appreciated, and may spark a few ideas I haven't employed just yet.
The movement/sound i'm trying to recreate repeats throughout the track, but can first be heard from 0:57-1:00....It is the airy synth movement I'd like to re-create.

it doesnt sound like hes doing anything special. You could probably do it a number of different ways, either in your VST(depending on what your using), or by mapping it in your DAW

Re: Creating the Xilent synth swell type sound
yea, it's a combination of a slightly longer attack on the filter/amp envelope WITH side chain compression. Mess around with settings and you'll get exactly what you're looking for. A side note though...that swelling effect is quite recognizable/easy to feel b/c the sound is so full and has a good amount of white noise. But regardless, practicing with what I said will get you what you need. Cheers.

Re: Creating the Xilent synth swell type sound
Hey guys, thanks for the brief advice, definitely appreciate the help. Just following up on the post to let you know I nailed it spot on. To be honest the ADSR parameters in the filter and amp sections were much less important (although I did adjust them to my liking) than I thought in regards to contributing to the sound movement. As a few of you stated, it was clearly sidechained, and to be honest the whole sound was shaped and executed largely by using the compressor. Adjusting the Ratio and the Release after having a generous threshold set, was really the most important part, as i'm sure you guys may have already discovered or known. Just figured id post to describe how I achieved my results. Thanks again!

Re: Creating the Xilent synth swell type sound
If you check out his earlier dnb stuff you can hear how much of a sick producer he is. All these how do i do the gemini/xilent sidechained bass are all gonna give you pretty much the same answer, just a simple bass with insane production and ear skills used with it. His tunes are insanely tight, same with gemini, and there isn't just a patch your gonna make to get the sound. Make sure your using a decent compressor and layering your sounds effectively with good EQ is a must. I found layering in some sampled strings actually helped quite a bit in getting that smooth sound. Saw waves are pretty essential for the lower mids as well, this is really evident in gemini's tracks. A plugin that might help you get that fatness as well is sausage fattener, its taken the piss out of quite a bit but its actually a really useful plugin, and a staple for most electro/house producers. Hope this helps, I know I couldn't effectively recreate this bass but i hope this puts you on the right track, practice practice practice
