First official Dubstep show on terrestrial/commercial radio

Post by NEBAKANEZA » Sun Oct 07, 2012 1:03 pm

What's up everyone. My name is Nebakaneza. Some of you may know who I am, but most probably don't. I won't ego stroke myself here with my accomplishments/associations, but just wanted to inform you about this radio program I'm helping out with. It has been going on for about a year now, and the music wasn't exactly what the majority of us would want to hear. I am pretty well versed in the world we all cherish, so I asked if I could help out and spice up the music library, and they accepted. This show is on Live 105 San Francisco (105.3 fm) and is at 11:59 pm every Wednesday, til 2am. The radio station is one of the largest alternative stations in the country, and is in the 4th largest radio market, tuned in by hundreds of thousands daily. This reaches the entire San Francisco Bay Area, and the rest of the world can tune in at http://live105.com.

As of now, they cater to the heavier filthy sounds, but am hoping that we can incorporate more of the tunes the heady heads will like. My goal is to cover the entire spectrum of sound we all know goes deeper than what the general public hears on the surface, and not just the stuff you find at kiddie raves. Of course there will be some of that, but I want to play some deeper sounds mixed in with the harder stuff (among the many many other sub-genres). I really want this to be a full representation of what we all love. If you are anything like me, then you hate divides, and dig shows that do not segregate. Good music is good fucking music, regardless of style. I am also trying to promote local shows that are not just the massive, corporate sponsored shows, as well as raising awareness on many other things in our culture that can be stereotyped by ignorance.

Some of you may be pissed about the commercialization of dubstep, and I can understand that too, but let's be honest with ourselves, it has been exploding for a while now. I just hope that I can put a band aid on an open wound, and not merely further the exploitation, and dumbing down of what we dedicate our lives to. I'm not politicing over here or anything, but just want to let any skeptics know that I will be working hard to fight for the preservation of our music as best I can.

With that being said, I need your help. We need to show the station managers that we are a powerful voice, and the more followers we have, the more power they will put in our hands to keep a diverse music library. Please follow us on twitter and facebook and interact with us. Try to share us with your friends if you are feeling generous.

In addition to the tracks being played on the show, we also feature DJs from around the world. If you would like to be on the show, it is not as hard as you think. We just need a 30 minute mix, not a minute more, not a minute less. It must also meet our quality of standards, such as:
*No out of key mixes
*No trainwrecks
*No swearing or questionable content
*No vocals over vocals, unless it works well
*Not just chart toppers or old ass tracks
*Not just your own produced tracks
*Don't put an overload of a particular artist.
You also should keep in mind that the show has a party vibe to it. I love the super deep neuro spacey soulful stuff like a motha fucka, but as a DJ I know how to read a crowd and diversify. Do what a DJ does best and keep in mind that this audience does not want to be put to sleep with something way too dark and droney. Don't sell yourself out either, but be aware that your mix needs some bang to it because this will be going out to the general public, not just the die hard steppaz.

Since the show is pre-recorded, we will need the mix emailed to us for review. You can send it to WWLive105@gmail.com

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you tune in. I think they will have me officially updating their library this month, with the final results airing in a week or two. Feel free to leave comments with your suggestions, or whatever you wish to add to this thread. Wish me luck, and thank you for the support. If you want to check out my personal mixes, they are all posted here... http://www.mixcrate.com/nebakaneza and here http://soundcloud.com/nebakaneza
