So i try and make all different types of music, i dont really have a specific genre at least not from what i can tell. I have been experimenting with wobbles and bit of dubstep, but i hear from many people mostly online sources that fl doesnt do dubstep well, and that Ableton is the daw of choice now i know that deadmau5 and benga use fl (benga also uses reason ) i have seen quite a few tuts on youtube and around the web that use fl but never anything drastic except half assed wobbles, anyways is fl good with this or am i gonna hit a dead wall, changing my daw isnt an option not only do i love everything about fl studio and i have put everything i have into it, but ableton is out of my price range for a while. Anyways let me know whats up guys appreciate it.

So yeah: first off this should be - theoretically - in the Production forum because, like, that's where it belongs for sure.

However - once it gets there, OP, you're gonna get flamed like toast. So in advance, prepare y'self.

Finally, what the only other reply said. You can make anything on anything, more or less, and in and of itself the program you're using will not make your songs good or bad, only what you do with them. FL is fine. Lots of people still use it. I like Reaper. Other people like other DAWs. Whatever... there is no right or wrong choice, only slightly different sets of options that each one provides. Ableton's great for playing out live, FL is great for throwing down ideas quick, but choosing anything "because Deadmau5 uses it" is about the most wrong reason you can pick, and here's why: that program didn't teach him how to make music; he taught himself via that program, but it still came down to him.

I however am making the switch from FL now that I have a good hand on how to compose (I still think I suck but with experience it'll get better I'm sure) after 4 1/2 months straight 16 hours a day..., just because the send & recieving is a bitch to do in FL as well as the fact that albeton has more quick shortcuts where I don't have to navigate crazily around.

Also FL like alpha said is great for throwing down ideas quickly, getting down a good beat going/synths etc. but afterwords it becomes complicated in the mix downs/mastering side (for me) in which I'd say personally to bounce all the tracks out to wav format and move them into ableton. I notice myself struggling to find accuracy on the bar for clipping as well as the fact that the mastering part seems illogical the way the program itself runs. Therefore it's either switch to ableton for that piece, or use a 3rd party external tool (I don't really want to use a 3rd party external tool and I figure if I learn ableton I could collab with some people who use FL/Albeton) Double whammy!

Anyways, I'll probably end up producing in ableton eventually as well instead of just mix downs &* mastering. (Well that's part of it haha)

Also grimsin, Its the knowledge you have. I've told you this before. You have to really learn it, the rest is just workflow.

FL will do everything you want, i suggest looking in the production forum for more info on how to get there though.

keep doing your thing and stop trusting "online sources", DAW debates are pointless and mainly revolve around trivial things like how well you can see the numbers on a meter.

You can do anything you want in FL Studio. There's no reason to change DAW, really no reason to even think about it.

My advice to you would be ... pick a particular synth and just really learn it inside out.

You'll get mixed results asking folks in the Production forum for help. Best of luck.

I used to hate FL, but I just couldn't seem to not want to use it lol. I can always make amazing hats in FL. Silkie uses FL Studio and his dubs are amazing!

One thing I don't like about FL is that you have to clone a whole track in order to manipulate 1 part of the beat, contradictory to Ableton's way of beat manipulation where you can just edit where ever you want.

I guess you just have to use what you're good with.

This is my 2nd ever attempt at making dubstep, normally an electro producer. Produced, mixed and mastered completely in FL Studio (using some external plugins of course). Not saying it's fantastic but I'd like to think it's better than a couple of 'half-assed wobbles' at least. So no, I don't think you'll hit a brick wall.

I learned my first DAW in Pro Tools, switched to Logic and now I'm in FL.

FL is the most fun ive had making tunes so far.

Well ableton was being lame to my comp so I moved back to FL.

Figured out how to send & Recieve in FL it's suprisingly easy to use ONCE set up.

It's still a bitch to set up though!
