Don't know if there's quite a few threads like this, so sorry in advance if there are.

I'm playing my first set in a club in a few weeks at Sankeys in Manchester. the most I've played in front of before was 50 a few times at parties. Has anyone got any advice, especially as I'm going to be playing on a big system in a big room?

you'll be fine after your first few mixes and then you'll proper enjoy it. i think finding out what mixer they have first and then seeing if you can practise on one to familiarise yourself with it is handy.

don't

on a serious note, DO make the promoter ensure there are two FULLY functioning turntables, and take your own needles

Don't worry if you fuck up a bit. Everyone does when they first play on a big system and if you spend too much time worrying after you have done you will likely fuck up more again so just chill and get in the right frame of mind.

you WILL be scared and you will be worried but my advice is to use that emotion to fuel your mix.

if you fuck up, wheel it and get it going as fast as possible

if you do a shoddy mix make sure the next tune you play out will reengage the crowd

ignore drunk cigarettes asking you to play certain tracks

make sure the weights and shit are all set up properly before you start

use ur own needles

be careful where you store your vinyl

dont drink/smoke too much but a couple of fear dampeners is advisable

bring some mates with you and have a guy behind the decks with you for moral support if you need it

good luck

Like gwa said, try and find out what mixer is being used, watch your levels, smile and enjoy yourself.

try and enjoy it, you'll play a much better set if your having a good time rather than pranging out.

Depends whereabouts you're playing in Sankeys. If it's your first time there then you'll probably be in the bar, I'm not 100% sure whether there are even any decks in that booth. Main room setup is brilliant, and upstairs at Spektrum is good too. Advice is to get in touch with the promoters now and find out, but bringing your own needles is definitely a good shout. Failing that, burn cds.

when i first played out i was too busy by looking at the stupid cdj bpm counters and planning 5 tracks forward into my set that i played a totally mediocre first half hour of the set...
