most of the stuff we buy is made in some far away country where the workers get paid fuck all for working stupid long hours. Thats Capitalism.
Sometimes its children making the stuff.
Now its the call-centre type jobs...
The spoiled, raised with a silver spoon, know nothing 'west' pushed anti-child labor laws onto Bangladesh in the '90s.
You know what happened to all those kids who were working in factories for a tiny ass wage? They either got into prostitution or died of starvation.
I know it's really easy to tell countries with FUCK ALL how they should model their society, you having been raised in one of the most propserous places on Earth in the HISTORY of civilization. But out there, that is opportunity. And you know how we got where we are today? Through being a developing country, exactly like that, as little as 150 years ago. In fact, the reason we don't HAVE child labor these days is because of a degree of free enterprise that allowed parents to accumulate enough wealth to be able to send their kids to school. The child labor laws were secondary to it. Cuz we wouldn't have been able to pull it off if the wealth and resources weren't there (see Bangladesh.. or Cambodia.. it was either of those).
I'm not saying that these conditions are
good. But they're
better than worse. And if I was a kid, I'd rather work and get paid than starve or sell my body. And yes, out there those ARE the only other options.
Weren't you the guy who thought that lots of diamonds would fix the economy?
