Stop the badger cull ! ! !

So, you might have heard about government's plan of culling badgers in England. It's supposed to protect cattle from TB (tuberculosis). However, scientists say it won't make any significant difference, more so - culling badgers would cause them moving to further areas and possibly make the problem even worse. There's a number of other actions that should be taken, rather than shooting off our wildlife, such as providing better cow welfare. Long term solution is needed, not random action following unsubstantiated theory.

Please, don't kill badgers. Treat your cows better. Sign the petition:

Signed! It's amazing how politicians like to make policy decisions like this without actually consulting experts. I've always thought there should be waaaaay more scientists in government rather than a bunch of lawyers

Thank you guys! Almost 200 thousand signed now, hope this means something!

Kay, no you didn't! That's awesome!

Rayman, this kind of thing should be an informed decision backed up by solid research. But as it often happens, this comes down to politics and quick, loud action not an actual problem solving. As I mentioned before, I've got a little problem with industrialisation of meat production (argh, it feels wrong writing 'production' when it comes to keeping animals) and somehow badgers are blamed and poorly condition of animal farms is not mentioned. Pisses me off. Plus, fuck bunch of wankers wandering around with riffles!

There is a very similar situation in the US, between bison herds and cattle

the laws governing that is more of a compromise between ranchers and park/wildlife officials though

I guess most wildlife legislation decisions in the US are more influenced by scientists

Wheres my rifle?

Saw a tasty looking Mauser air rifle replica for 199€ in a shop over the weekend, was sorely tempted to get it and set up a target on the apartment building roof across the street.

Badgers are truly safe only in their sett, surrounded by vinyl. Random acts of aggression are caused by insecurity when interacting with other animals. Does it really look like a dangerous creature to you?

Cull's been postponed!

Now I wish they can draw up a sensible plan to stop the disease from spreading amongst both, cattle and badgers. Even according to the farmers, they are given conflicting advice and the measures implemented at the moment are pointless. I really hope the exact same situation won't arise next year!
