MOTW: Happa (mixmag mix)

Post by Bo Diggidy » Wed Oct 24, 2012 10:55 pm

Been listening to this this evening - http://www.mixmag.net/music/mix-of-the-week/motw-happa

Say what you will about him, the undeniable similarities to sunklofuck, blawa....BLAH BLAH BLAH. The track selection in this is fucking top, some banging Techno and the like in it. It's quite a clinical mix but great none the less.

Looking forward to seeing where this kid goes :Q:

Enjoy!

It's discouraging how good this mix is.

This kid has so much support behind him, he's going to get pretty big in the next couple of years. And his tunes are actually pretty good.

im still not sold on this kid.the fact that its all forthcomings etc takes away from it for me, plus none of the tracks are given any room to breath, feels like hes crammed too, but thats just me :)

Yeah that's kind of what I meant too. Feels a bit like a mini-mix you'd get on Radio 1, where they just cram about 90 songs into 5 minutes. Still think it's a great mix though, really picks up after his Jupiters remix. Plus, I like the fact a lot of the material is forthcoming, gives me stuff to look forward to!

When everything's unreleased/forthcoming, you can smell hype behind all this... His remix of jupiters is good but I've never been into him that much, I can see people getting influenced by the big names telling them to like him though.

exactly, ive seen a few fall victim to that hype already. i'd be more interested in a mix containing older gems referenced back to more current material, rather than just full of new hype tracks.

I understand the skepticism but come on. You know he has so much potential.

Everyone has potential in that case, older artists too, it's just evolution, who cares about age? It's not like the longer you produce the better your tracks are.

Really? I 100% disagree. I have seen so many young producers and artists grow into something better and seen way too many older producers just fall apart. Not saying this is the case with everyone.

i only discovered this kid the literally 3 days ago and the amount of pure JEALOUSY i see from people is incredible.

saying he ain't all that, saying he's biting style. fuck up, the kid is 15 years old.. where the fuck is he going to get inspiration from from that age. boyo ain't even old enough to go to raves to get a real understanding of the dance so it's obvious the kids gonna be biting on other current styles.. hell i know what i was listening to at that age and i was narrow minded as any other adolescent teenager.

as for his mix? from what i've read people been saying he's terrible live.. what are you genuinly expecting from a lad of his age? takes years to be able to master how to put a mix together and it does not surprise me in the slightest he's crammed as many tunes in as possible.. compare him to DJs who've been around from day... most of the time they mix the intro into the outro..

'i'm not sold on him'

give him 10 years and you'll be crying about his discog prices.

i ain't a big fan of his music but i am excited to see what the future holds for this one.

 he is very "hipster" looking but, more relevantly, this tune put me on his side as soon as i heard it

<iframe src="/forum/video.php?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBWIUxRKLeY" frameborder="0" style="overflow:hidden; height:auto; max-width:540px"></iframe>

guy is gonna make some serious music in the future if his creativity keeps up with his skills. and let's face it it's not like young teenagers are a rarity in music.

I've been guilty of the aforementioned jibes before and I feel bad about it. People say his stuff sounds like Blawan or Sunklo etc but that's amazing because those kinds of tunes are pretty hard to craft!

I think there is absolutely no doubt that he's got great production skills, just that personally I wouldn't want to go to a club and be DJ'ed to by a 15 year old kid. It's awkward. That's fair enough isn't it? He's just too young. He hasn't even reached sixth form yet....think about what you were like at 15. I feel bad for saying it but it's weird...

I agree with this to be fair, especially a 15 year old kid who plays absolute bangers like in this mix! And yeah, I like that he's making stuff like Blawan, etc, considering I love that style. Everyone is influenced by someone, just because his influences are more obvious in his tunes, doesn't detract from the fact that I think they're pretty damn heavy. Essentially if you don't like his stuff then :W: and if you do then :W: . I personally can't wait to own that Jupiters remix (forthcoming on Text as soon as fucking possible hopefully!). Good luck to him :Q:
