anyone think this is a worthwhile investment? i dont have lots of money to throw around right now but i continually feel like my mids/low end get muddy in my room. i was thinking on just getting some foam to place behind the speakers. Im have krk 6's and i dont think the problem is in them.

any bit is a help. but i think you should probably save up and put it in multiple areas around the room depending on your setup. look up some setups online and how the acoustics may be in your room.

acoustic foam does not deal with low end, its mainly to absorb the high end and to stop the reflections of that high end phasing with certain frequencies causing some to be louder and some to be quieter

You're going t want to put them direct;y across from both of yours ears, not behind the speakers.

check out Ethan Weiners youtube and website, lots of good info on there about sound absorption.

there is actuality a company (cant remember the name) where you can send off pictures of your room along with its dimensions and they will send you back a diagram of your room and show you where the best places are to put sound absorption panels

actually, i have got a load of rock-wool sitting in the garage and have been meaning to make some sound absorbing panels for a while, there are some good videos online telling you how to make them.

a few things to note tho: its not behind your monitors that is the worst offender, its in the corners of the room as this is where the bass builds up and gets reflected back the most, for this you need "bass traps", these can take up a significant amount of space, so for small rooms this is a problem

also, to effectively absorb low frequency's the foam needs to be at least 4" thick, meaning a bit of foam behind your monitors might not be that helpful.

i think room treatment can be important, but i know a lot of really good producers that dont have any at all, so i would say only worry about it if it is a problem..

that said i am definitely not an expert on room acoustics

The most important place to put them is the first reflection points, which means on the walls and ceiling somewhere between the speaker and your listening position. And of course, as mentioned above, that mostly deals with mid/high frequency ringing, you still need bass traps in the corners to deal with bass issues, standing waves etc.

if you already have too much low mids etc, absorbing high frequencies is only going to make it worse.

what you need to do is analyse your room and find out what low frequencies are building up and then get bass traps that are specifically tuned to those problem frequencies, not point just buying any old random one if it 'traps' a frequency that isn't a problem in the first place, you will just make problems freqs stand out even more.
