I've heard that making your own blog is at least somewhat helpful in getting your music heard and your name out there, but I only know of one DJ/producer that had a blog and he gave up after six months. Anyone doing this and seeing any sort of results?

It really depends on how you use it/how much effort you do I suppose. The reality is for most people some cheap/basic PR would probably be more effective and time saving if you're very unknown. It would take hours of work/effort for it to get exposure, in which time you could have done more productive things.
PM me if you want some dirt cheap PR with results

I have a simple blog used to promote my mixes, I think it's good as a base for your details etc. it's not too much work but like I said the layout etc on mine is relatively simple. U can pay to advertise your blog via google Adsense if u really want too, but I havnt tried that.
I've been busy with the day job but had 400 hits in October which was more than I expected as I've not been very active in the scene for a while, so I would say it can be useful.
