Avoiding your neighbors in apartments

This is always a mixed opinion. Personally, I don't like making ties with my neighbors because most of the time they won't leave you alone afterwards. Evertyime you see them you have to stop what your doing to say hi and have a short convo with them. Especially if they live right above you or below you, then you are pretty much living with them at that point.

700th post. Can't fuck with my epeen.

I live with 5 other people and they generally avoid any kind of contact, except for the American guy I moved in with from the last place we were living in.

Basically, don`t push people to do what they don`t want to if they`re not unreasonably bothering you and everything will be fine.

Last neighbors we got in contact with lived below us. He was one of those southern hicks who smoked like a chimney, and his wife was from Texas. I swear these people didn't know when to quit asking for favors. It got so bad that his wife knocked on our door at 2 in the morning requesting a ride to go cheat on her husband. Thank god they moved out.

We have met cooler neighbors though, like this one guy from Ukraine who always had us over to drink (no stereotyping intended). So yeah, they aren't all bad, but it's usually better just to keep to yourself.

House neighbors you speak to--or respond--just to be cordial, like in my parents house, cause you'll be there for 20/30 years.

Apartment/Flat neighbors can f*ck off. Don't talk to me. Don't ask me questions. Don't even smile. Like OP said, people don't know how to leave you alone afterwards. So I don't even come off as approachable, right from the start.

Think it is good to met neighbors. 9/10 they are brain dead cows working/eating themselves to death. But we recently had a black out and people were sharing flashlights and shit. Actual community vibe for a few hours. Pretty dope. Have been in too deep though. That sucks on an almost daily basis.

Some of my apartment neighbors have been way cool. There was Larry, a jazz drummer from New York who used to play with Joe Henderson. There was Mary, an old punk from San Fransisco who was mad salty but had a heart of gold. She would bring me vegan soup sometimes. I guess it depends on your neighbors.

If I don't want to talk to them, I just pretend I don't speak Spanish.

my neighbours put a note through our door saying 'please use your own bin'. if they'd taken the time to get to know me they'd have worked out this was their worst possible course of action. i now exclusively use their bin.

I do this too, but they soon realize I do speak Dutch.

i had a similar problem...don't understand how people aren't mature enough to face them and confront any problems
