Assigning decay to hit velocity in Ableton Drum racks?

Hey,
Just wondering if its possible to assign the decay with a drum rack to the velocity of the midi note on Ableton 8? Can't seem to find anything on it via google or here. I'm wanting the sound of a hi-hat sample to decay faster the shorter the velocity of the sample.

Your asking if you can control the decay time through velocity information in ableton? No, neither Sampler or Simpler are capable of velocity modulation of decay time. You could however set up an instrument rack within the drumrack creating multiple instances of simpler (or sampler) with the high hat sample loaded in. Change the decay time of the various instances in whichever fashion you want. Then you can use the velocity chain selector to switch between these chains (and therefore the decay time of the high hat.) based on the incoming note velocity. hope this helps.

try making a drumpulse machine and tweaking the settings, ableton is amazing.

Ah yeah, I've run across that drumpulse thing before. I forgot about it. The chain selector is a good idea too. I was doing that with different filter types trying to get a z-planish morphing thing at one point. Thanks guys.

I haven't tried decay but there's routing options under the midi tab of Sampler (far right). On the left there's gonna be parameters like velocity next to a dropdown where you select what you want it to modify. I know that there's sample length (no decay), and a bunch of other options.

Sampler, Filter/Global tab, Time<Vel is the parameter you want. Positive values make higher velocity hits more punchy/"attack-y" than lower velocity hits; negative values the inverse of this.
