recent benga productions have been cooker cutter imo

and even through hilux's stuff hasnt exactly broken any moulds, he bothers to make it sound slightly interesting (eg breakdowns, intros etc)

Skrillex has at least maintained a clear direction (even if I don't like it much) while Benga has gone from making pretty inconsistent (just my opinion don't flame me) but occasionaly hard-hitting tunes to making astonishingly irrelevant music and also some really bad pop via Magnetic Man.

Benga feels like he riding of the back of his career four years ago.

Skrillex wins

I stopped checking for Benga sometime in 2008 after playing Diary Of An Afro Warrior two or three times. He was only really ever useful for keeping Skream in check at gigs, tbh. Apart from one of the Magnetic Man singles, I've not heard anything from him since then and not really ever felt a need to.

I've never really checked for Skrillex... I'm not sure I've ever heard a full tune.

tl;dr I'm not sufficiently prepared to answer this thread.

Benga stopped being relevant when he got out of puberty. His dark shit he did back when he was 14 - 16 was coo' though. I'll always love 'The Judgement'. Shit was vibey.

Not sure if I owuld say that Skrillex is better than Benga. They're both not really my cup of tea.

Probably very much in the minority, but I really like this:

I feel bad for Benga, he probably thinks he's some extremely important and massive name in "dubstep" but really, nobody really cares about him anymore, right?

Wrong.

I don't think he's completely wrong. Benga is still a big deal, but it's not the way it used to be. It's like dubstep no longer has any 'celebs' except for Skrillex and Skream (to a lesser degree). It's mostly allllllll about Skrillex now.

^I don't think Benga is rated as much as a producer anymore, but as a DJ he's definitely still on the same level as Skrillex (if we're talking celeb status). I don't think he's going anywhere, anytime soon.

i dont give a shit about either of them, but benga is a pioneer of the sound. i don't know what skrillex can be said to have pioneered and tbh i care even less.

benga wins

skrillex has been going downhill in production for ages. none of his new shit is even close to how well produced his smans ep is. (even if you dont like it, you cant say its bad production)
now he actually sounds like all the people that are trying to copy him, and not because the people that are copying him are improving. I cant tell the difference between a recent zomboy/kill the noise/skrillex production.

Zomboy always sounded EXACTLY like skrillex to the exact structure of the tunes and sounds used tho

At least Benga has been diverse, Lthough from reading this thread everyone thinks its been downhill. Not sure what came out first, his release on Kapsize or Transformers but those are the last two I liked (I think, not been paying him nmuch attention recently)
