DSF Awards 2012: Still worth it?

Post by joeki » Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:08 pm

They were a great success again last year (for which I thank the organisers and admins) and they are a great opportunity to give some recognition back to the artists and DJ's we all love.

But is it still worth it do one in 2012? How much good/innovative dubstep came out this year? Aren't it going to be the usual suspects taking the prizes? And what about the growing interest on this board in post-dubstep (I hate that word but I hope you know what I mean by it). Not saying anything, just asking.

I would have a hard time naming anything dubstep in the best 20 records of the year that's for sure.

Wow thought title said DMAs...we should talk about that instead tho.
So do youthink DMAs will host 2013 DMAs before 2013 and then 2014 DMAs in January?
No sir, because the world will end in a few days so therefore it will b inpossible.

Heh, DMA's, epic thread. Still, it was a serious question. I'd be more than happy to contribute. Again, I certainly know some people really appreciated getting positive feedback from the DSF audience through the awards (new labels, digital labels, radio show (hosts)...). At least the organisers now know I hadn't forgotten about it.

I can think of about a dozen dubstep albums that could be nominated. So yes, it's definitely still worth it.

keep it going man, by last year it had already got to a point where quite a few tracks that weren't strictly dubstep got nominated, but it was still a success wasnt it? Dsf isnt strictly about just dubstep anymore, and if anything I think it'll be good to see how that reflects on the awards this year

Competition in music is fucking retarded.

Isn't most of it down to taste? So surely whatever the largest amount of people like will win - does that make it the best?

It isn't about that. It's about giving some recognition back to the scene. I remember several independent and underground people, who have put in the hours and the work, being very happy about just being nominated. I think people Like bunzer0 with his FOB show, Joe Nice, but also the smaller (digital) labels really getting some great exposure through these awards (mindstep, fentplates,...).

You're right, it isn't a competition, but it is about giving something back. There are going to be views, people visiting the site, perhaps checking the nominees out. All about exposure, however trivial that may seem to some of you.

You people and your twisting of words :U:

Definitely keep it, if only to recognise new talent.. both producers and labels.
