Question on Trap tracks

Hey guys I did a quick DSF search on my thread idea and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so:
I've been doing 1 week challenges, this week and last week was a bit hard with Thanksgiving and black friday and me being a retail employee. Regardless, for my 1 week challenge this week I figure to push my self as an sound engineer and an artist I'd do a trap or "trap" like song.
Here's my problem - I DLed a 808 sample pack. The pack was sampled from a real Roland 808 at a hundo bpm and the root is an A. I started with the kick on C but found that because of the sub-bass freq of the kick drum it would what i could only describe as grossly oscillate when I add a sub bass to it. I tried moving the sub to the root of C and nothing it gives me that same back and forth out of rhythm osc between the kick and the bass. I found that I could put a mid range bass on top of the sub bass line and the "osc" wasn't heard but couldn't check as I couldn't turn my monitors up to a good level at 1:30 in the morning when I come home from work. So I bumped the kick down to the root it was sampled at A, I believe A3 and dropped the sub bass also to the root of A. This way I got a good thick boom but the tail of the kick wasn't too noticeable but i could still hear a slight oscillation between the kick and sub bass. Again when I threw a mid-range bass on it you would just get the big boom of the kick and I'm assuming since it's a low note for the kick it tapers off quicker so you can't really notice the osc of the two unless you really listen.
As I listen to more "trap" like music to hear it and be inspired by it the more I don't seem to hear a sub bass just that 808 kicks or a real deep bass-y kick. Trap drops seem very thin with what to me at least, sounds like that 808 kicks just lengthy to give that sub bass feel then a real sharp "gangsta synth" is layered on top. Maybe a vocal shot or two.
Long story short, does trap music not have a sub bass for it favors the 808 sub kick drum instead and uses that as a kick and as a bass. Or is there something I'm missing with trying the layer sub bass on top of it?
P.s. Usually for my songs. If I'm using Massive, I'll throw a sub bass right into the patch I'm making if I feel it needs it, other wise I just right a pure mid-range and use a simple 3xosc for the sub bass. I'll throw the pure mid-range bass on top of the sub bass to give it that thick deep sound. I'm afraid if I change up the patch for this trap song to include a sub bass freq that I'm gunna have the same problem as I do with the kick and 3xosc but instead with the Massive bass patch and the kick thus mucking up the entire synth.
any helps? tips? hints? would be great. I saw a thread http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=261234 where is is a video basics on trap/juke/electro swing/break core. Which I'm gunna check out now but I don't think it's gunna answer my question, still be interesting to watch through.
