I'm kinda new to producing but im getting really into it. My tracks are mainly dubstep or dubstep influenced but i really need some good bass sounds cos i dont have a big bss library. Im a bit of a tight bastard though and im looking for free bass samples, preferably sub basses. Can anyone help?

Anything stopping you making your own bass sounds with a (free) bass synthesiser? There are a ton of them out there. What host program are you using to put things together?

Not trying to be mean, but making music out of a bunch of other peoples samples and construction kits makes everything end up paint-by-numbers samey.

yeh i know, i want to me my own sounds. At the moment i just edit other peoples sounds. I use FL studio for everything at the moment. What free bass synthesizers can i use with FL studio. I have Ts404 but its not that great...

If you cant get around that theres no point in looking for vsts, or are u looking for something quick to bang out a generic soundin bass

If your looking to do this properly, be prepared to do ur homework and research, find out what all the knobs do, and why u'd need to use em.

Ull actually learn quicker this way, getting pointers along the way is fine.. but its a bit dumb saying "any free basses?"

i dunno i dont think its THAT bad to ask for some bass samples, not all your basses have to/should be synths. Personally id never ask cuz theres a million and one sample packs out there to download, id just find them and use them. Using samples doesnt mean your unoriginal either just twist em up a bit.

cheers man, i appreciate the samples. I know its unoriginal and i do plan to move onto making my own sounds, but im only 16 and like i said im new to producing so hopefully ill grow into it all

dont feel like samples are automatically unorginal. it all in how you go about it samples or synths. a cheesy synth bass is just as bad as a wack bass sample.

I find using samples for basses really restrictive, much easier to learn a vst synth that you can really manipulate.

A simple one to start off with is NW Bass i think its called, it's been mentioned and linked to here on the forum. Can't really go wrong with it, just flip a few knobs and make a melody in your piano roll and you can get your own bassline happening.

Just my opinion and experience (which isnt much) anyways, take it or leave it champ, peace

Same for me but i do use some bass samples to use as basic, after importing them into my FL, I just modify them ...

YAY for software synths! Yummmy. These things are getting so much better at quality these days as well.

Krakli make some good free VSTi synths, some not so good...also CM puts out a ton of free stuff...start with a mono sine wave to me is best. Go to kvraudio.com. Plus, Ultra Focus is a very versatile good sounding soft-syn for cheap...like $350...also uses UVI engine so you can tweak it.

its well worth usin a vst synth, and learnin what everything does, might take a while and get fustrating,

we exclusively use FL's TS404 for basslines. haven't found anything that compares.

those are some good free VST synths.

I was fortunate in that before I ever got my hands on a sequencer, I had a demo software synth. Can't remember what it was called, but could couldn't even save patches with it. I just used to play with that for ages making sounds. So by the time I got my hands on reason, I knew how to make the synth work. I'd recomend just spending alot of time fucking around with a soft synth, with no real aim other than exploring and farmiliarising.

a great way to learn synthesis is to go to www.synthedit.com and download synthedit, then go through the many tutorials are on there and other places online

it gets you to actually put your synth together from all the different parts eg. oscillators, noise sources, vca's, vco's, filters, lfo's etc.

then you can export your synth as a vsti

great fun!
