The synth im on about is at 1.17 in the 2nd bar of the drop. It is epic. Fact. But how do i make such a godly synth?
Im looking for a way to make this on NI Massive or FM8 (although you may need to explain more in depth as im fairly new to it)
I can't try out stuff now but a few things i would try would be, parabolic shaper and/or sine shaper, reverb, lowpass or scream filter (scream maybe to get that grittyness) and perhaps some phase modulation (perhaps with some automation?). Oooh and maybe some chorus applied lightly?
Knowing how to make something like this would make my year, so please leave any suggestions you may have, however small
Cheeeeeers!

You are talking about that piercing lead synth correct? Because considering how you wen't about trying to recreate it using lowpass filters, reverb, chorus and automated PM it seems to me you're trying to make some sort of weird distorted bass with a lot of width -- which is sort of the opposite of that clear and energetic sound i'm hearing at 1.17.
I'm using my mbp speakers (they're shit) so I can't hear the full sound but I think I have an idea on what's going on. Basically the core of the sound can be made almost entirely inside massive from a nifty use of comb filtering (and feedback). Surely there's some other stuff going on like multiband distortion and slight pitch movement. Also, they probably (re)sampled to make it easier to work with because comb filtering is a pain to get right.
I can produce similar sounds in FM8 but they don't get nearly as energetic and you wouldn't be interested in me trying to explain it.

Sounds like a Supersaw Wave synth.... Just make a Saw wave in Massive, with like 16/16 voices, or w/e.. Youtube "Supersaw Wave Tutorial"

Emulating the exact sound of a certain synth is close to impossible. You can always learn how to make your own and keep experimenting til u reach 'Godliness'. Maybe f around with some great sounding presets too.
Just realized I'm playing a much higher note then they did. But i hope you can see some similarities.

i tend to get close to sounds using eq and distortion/waveshapers. as long as u keep notching frequencies and distorting it again (and tweaking the synth again if you have to) then you will get closer.

Nice! Yeah i dont often use comb filters so it didnt even spring to mind! But with the lowpass what i meant was use a parabolic shaper to get the screech and then cutoff on lowpass to have it kind of growl-ish.
Anyhoo, care to explain more into how you achieved that sound?

I already have . Give it a try and if you can't make it within a couple of hours, send me a pm and I'll explain more detailed how it works.

Aah okay, i have achieved sounds close to it but they are far too distorted? And if i bring the factors which distort it down it loses its crunch.... Also have you applied reverb to it or is it dry?

Ait. There is a touch of reverb to it. But it's really irrelevant to the core of the synth, it's just there to add a little space/width to it. I'll get home in about 2-3 hours from now, if you're still up I can fire up my stream and show the patch and how to use it properly. Not sure if it's allowed to post the link on the forum (can be seen as advertising spam?) so I'll send you a pm when it's up.
