GLASGOW,14/09 FORTIFIED w/ HORSEPOWER PROD, ART SCHOOL
Thats right, tha illsta, aka benny ill is coming up north to bless us all.Dont suppose he needs much introduction on here, but here goes -
Downstairs in the vic bar, we are pleased to announce a set from someone who can be classed as a true innovator, benny ill from horsepower. Cited by many as the god father of what is now called dubstep, benny is responsible for most of the mighty tempa labels output, and will be playing a set of classics and new productions. Fans of slinky, bumpin two-step beats should not miss out. As usuall we will be beefing up the existing soundsystem, and darkening the place up a bit! gotta scare those students!
9pm till 3am
heres a word from the tempa website, for those that dont know -
Horsepower Productions are truly unique. Many credit them along side El-B for the creation of the genre that's it 'Dubstep' Their debut LP 'In Fine Style' was released in November 02 and was a collection of 6 new tracks - making up a double 12" (with bonus re-issue 'Gorgon Sound') and a single 13 track CD. The CD contained these seven tracks and a collection of other Horsepower 12"s now mainly out of press. Until the end of 2002 Horsepower Productions were collectively Benny Ill, Nassis and Lev Jnr. They now operate as a two man outfit minus Nasis, who is concentrating on Drum & Bass and other production work.
They have a new LP in production which is due later this year. But they"ll be a new 12" before then with a Landslide Remix.
One things for sure whether Horsepower is one, two or three people they"ve consistently delighted and surprised with their constantly innovative approach to production. What"s most apparent when you hear their music is a diversity of influence. All born and bred Londoners - the roots of Horsepower"s sound is as culturally diverse as the city"s inhabitants. Their inspiration draws on UK Garage, Techno, House, Dub, Broken-Beat, Hip-Hop, Reggae, D&B, Funk, Soul and a massive selection of global cinema samples.
Benny Ill has been producing music for the past 10 years under various alias"s including the dub laced sounds of Bill & Ben. Benny is also a regular DJ at Drive By and Wicked in NYC & Forward>» in the UK.
Here are some things people have said 'bout dem...
Jockey Slut
"Dubstep-meets-Detroity-Photek-in-Shogun-Assassin"
XLR8R
"Some of the most potent sounds coming out of London... over the past 2 years this 3 man crew has built an expanding catalogue of boundary-pushing releases, placing them among UK Garage"s foremost innovators"
Mixmag
"Lets make no bones about it: Horsepower are production geniuses"
Belgrade Sound System
"One of the best dance albums this year"
Deuce
"Futuristic 2-Step you gotta check"
Hyperdub.com
"In the bass, you can hear the ghost of techstep, the rhythm follows on from El-B's skankin' innovations, the delay echoes somewhere between Mad Professor & Maurizio. With oozing soul poured delicately on top, and Lee Perry making fleeting vox appearances, this is pure dread garage."

Electric Eliminators always bringing the best. I'll see if I can finally convince some people to come through with me for this one. Bit of a poor show from the Edinburgh residents, maybe I'll track down the hot tub legend and bring her along.
Misk: Let me know if you're in Edinburgh (and if not what the hell are you doing? It's the festival and that.)

Is it going to be Mungo's sound system?
Benny Ill - Have you ever made a dubstep tune that samples Benny Hill's 'Yackety Sax' theme? If you haven't you probably should
