Popping sound on sub bass
Every time i am making a sub bass using Ableton's Operator (also with NI Massive) i get this popping sound when moving from one note to the next. ive tried putting the attack up and the release and also putting down the release but i still get this annoying popping sound.i have also messed with the length of the note but nothing. anyone else have or had this problem before? i can't figure it out and its driving me nuts

Enable the glide function or make the attack time longer.

Make sure the G is lit up and set the time next to it to like 50-100 probably. Also, set the voices to 1.

I made you a subbass in this ableton project file, let me know if it still pops because then it might be something else rather than ableton.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
Add a little attack to Env 4, keeps it from popping. That and if you add a little release to it. Works really well for making a smoother sounding sub in massive.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
smoothing out the attach fixes it for me
Re: Popping sound on sub bass
take that filter out, you don't need to filter a pure sine wave nor eq it, then add a bit of attack and release, the pop sound will go away. You don't need to compress it either.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
agreed with the compression bit, but I've had this same problem. In massive I never had any luck even after changing the envelopes. So I put two low pass filters at about 100hz in ableton and I embraced the pop. After filtering it sort of sounds like a pitched 808 kick, or whatever the sub sounds like in a lot of rap songs i listen to. I like it and it works for me.Hircine wrote:take that filter out, you don't need to filter a pure sine wave nor eq it, then add a bit of attack and release, the pop sound will go away. Re: Popping sound on sub bass
adjusting adsr in the synth also sometimes doesn't help. If thats the case just resample and adjust the adsr in a sampler. And make it monophonic

Try changing buffer size in settings.

Re: Popping sound on sub bass
The problem with turning up the release of the sub, is that your sub notes can sometimes overlap if you're using lots of synths, causing a spike in the output and possible clipping or distortion. Ideally sub bass should be fairly tight and controlled as it takes up a lot of headroom.
What i do is to make my basses, duplicate the tracks and make a sine patch for each bass. Then render to audio and manually fade the ends of the sub out - this way i can both make sure there's no overlap and also get rid of any clicks.
