What stereo widening plugin do you use?

hey all,

I just switched from Logic to Ableton. When I used Logic there was a good stereo spreader in it but now Im not sure what to use. Lately I've been using ozone 4 stereo imager but ozone is a cpu hog. Anyone know of any good stereo imaging plugins you could suggest?

thanks!

I don't trust them. I'm paranoid about mono compatibility. My tunes are mostly played at house parties and ive seen many mobile dj's set up their gear poorly so the stereo image gets represented pretty poorly. I'm more prone to using mid-side eq techniques or routing the left and right channels to their own tracks and treating the right and left channels differently. Keeps phase is check. I do have issues in getting a big wide sound so I can see the appeal in using stereo widening.

Ableton has Utility which can control the stereo wideness.

Use a Abletons filter delay plugin switch off the L+R in the middle, click the sync button so it turns to time and just make the the left speaker 1ms and the right speaker 10ms and BOOM! sounds a lot wider...

I can see why you'd be worried about that, but if you just make sure to check your tune in mono for phasing issues (which I'm of the opinion you should!) you should be fine.

Many synths have stereo control, that's one of the many things I like about sylenth. and the panning/phase/8 voice detuned per osc is awesome aswell. I use Ozone's imager a lot due to my awesome cpu but the dimension expander (the free one) is a good one. I use FL's stereo shaper, fruity flangus and the stereo separation on each mixer track (and the multiband contol in maximus) more, however.

Ozone 5 is amazing for this. Otherwise the trick with abletons filter delay that someone mentioned earlier is effective as well. Utility is yet another option, but my least favorite.

I use the PSP Stereo Enhancer and I find it works very well.

sample delay or the phase plug from tritone digital

remember that if you invert the phase of something in 1 channel, it'll disappear in mono.

the flux stereo tool some nice fellow producer mentioned to me some time ago was a fucking nice tip

http://www.fluxhome.com/products/freewares/stereotool

it can be very harsh or very subtile but as far as i understand it it need some kind of stereo information to make it even more stereo so a chorus or reverb inbefore makes the difference

and the
space 360 from the kvr contest this year is really nice too

If you like logic's stereo spreader, why don't you bounce your stuff and import it into logic and then bounce it with the effect you already like?
