Buying Ableton Suite after owning cracked version, tips?

Just going to be straight with all you and say that I've had a version of Ableton Live Suite 8 for about a year and I love it, so I'm finally putting down the cash to buy a legitimate copy which will also give me a free update to Live 9. Does anyone have any tips for me in installing the legitimate copy? Will it the overwrite things that it needs to overwrite or should I uninstall my cracked Live? Will my saved instruments patches and presets be in place after uninstalling Live and reinstalling the legitimate copy?

EDIT: Also, do you think this is something I could call the company's support line about?

Any help on this topic would be great. If you want to hate on me for torrenting Live, you can do that too. I'm just looking for some advice.

Have a nice day ;-)

I won't give you shit for for torrenting Live and I don't think anyone else should. It's ridiculous that speaking of torrenting is a sort of taboo among producers.

Anyways, I'm going to say that it won't overwrite your cracked copy. I torrented FL Studio 9 a while back and it was not overwritten when I bought FL 10. I'm going to assume it goes the same across the board.

Big up on you for stepping up your game. I'd suggest you to back up any project files, it won't overwrite the cracked one so you shouldn't be afraid of not being able to open your projects anymore. Worst of the cases, bounce stems.

...Same boat as this guy haha...

Awesome deal right now, and am getting this for xmas...

I know its been asked probably a million times but, Live or Suite? On one hand I see you get 6 extra instruments for not very much more plus some extra samples (sound?). But at the same time, I feel like I could use that saved cash with Live and just buy exactly what other plugins I'd want, like 3rd party stuff (although,200 dollars doesn't get you that much in the plug in world.)

At this point I'n realizing I'm not using much of the Suite instruments, but could totally imagine doing so in the future. Any advice?

Which 6 plugs are the ones that come with the expensive version?
Theres several sales going on and some good stuff to be had in general for 50$ or less.

The plug ins suite comes with are great though. Sampler is a beast, so is operator.

This is exactly what I did! For about 8 months I used a pirated version found on piratebay. I was actually planning to hold out until 9 came out, but when they released the discounted price, plus free upgrade to 9, I decided to become legit. If you still have the Albeton copy that they distributed with the APC40, Launchpad or the MPD, you can actually install that version, register it and then purchase live 8 for an additional discount.

Suite comes with (+6) Analog, Collision, Electric, Operator, Sampler, Tension
Live comes with Drum Rack, Impulse and Simpler

live imo is good if you work ONLY in VSTi's or you work exclusively with loops and/or just play out finished tracks with ableton.

Simpler is a viable sampler, but sampler just BLOWS IT AWAY. The only advantage I will ever find in using simpler is modulating the loop or "grain size" on a sample. This is the ONLY thing it can do better than simpler.

I agree, I'd spend the extra cash to get Operator and sampler.... According to this - https://www.ableton.com/en/shop/ you can no longer buy 8 with the free upgrade. Hopefully you've already purchased it.

It doesn't... I didn't realize I was already signed in to Ableton's site. When I click on the link it say's, " Suite 8 can’t be upgraded any further."
You should be ok, sorry!

:?: Well that's your opinion, but I record live instruments into it and control a bunch of midi hardware with it all of the time.

OP, if you are thinking of getting at least one of the suite instruments, then you should go for the suite. It is only like 150 more for the suite while all of the instruments are about 125 each by themselves.

Operator is worth it. Just the most painless sub you'll ever make. I mean obviously it can do all kinds of crazy stuff, but the convenience of it alone is worth the extra cash for me.

Sampler is cool too. It's nice being able to switch simpler->sampler in a drumrack. Also, analog is top and tension and .. all of them!

Did you uninstall your pirated version before installing the one you got legitimately or did you just install the legitimate one without uninstalling?

Yeah I did...I was a little worried about loosing my templates, drum racks, project files, etc... so I saved them all on a usb drive before I uninstalled. I don't think I lost anything, but it doesn't hurt to be more safe than sorry.

1. Uninstall the pirated copy

2. Install the free copy of Ableton that came with your hardware

3. register your serial with ableton

4. From Ableton's site, upgrade your version.

It should give you an additional discount on top of their current promotion.
