Amp issue with speakers

So I have this amp hcd-gx470 using a pair of shelf speakers also from sony. Seems like the right ports on the amp have an issue. The sound they give to the speaker plugged in is inconsistent in volume, most usually very quiet. I have plugged and replugged in multiple times in attempt to fix a possible bad connection. What might be going wrong? Help would be really appreciated.
