Biggest "Grower" Tune/Release

Post by garethom » Wed Jan 02, 2013 5:07 pm

What tunes took the longest to grow on you?

Swear I was listening to previews of Anidea about a year and a bit ago, and kept coming back to previews on record sites/videos on youtube, like I wanted to like it, but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Checked it out again a few months ago, and it clicked straight away. Bought it and hasn't been out of rotation since, especially this tune:

That "Ultra Thizz" by Rustie was a bit like that too. Keep listening to early Skull Disco releases by Shackleton, but I still don't really feel them. Taking a while.

That Guido tune was an instant percy.

Probably Midnight colour, remember being disappointed with it for ages

Remember first hearing "Mad Sax" and I was like, what the fuck is this, and shut it off straight away  Probably been played at least twice a day since I got it.

I had a similar experience with RSD. I always wanted to like his tunes but I never really did then one day I put on Jah Love and it all clicked for me!

All of Death Grips, and yeah that Actress album took a while for me to appreciate; but the last couple of tunes are great.

phaeleh the cold in you. to be fair when i played it i rushed through it and thought na fuck it. kinda liked cold in you but compared it to afterglow and again thought na.
then bout a year after the release i come across it again, so i gave it a try on proper speakers and fucking loved the cold in you and in the twilight. So i bought the vinyl for those 2 but really didn't like Perilous feat. I-Mitri and Caustic Storm but after forcing myself to play em i now really feel em and overall really love the ep.
even own the cd aswell as the extra tracks are all amazing.

new Flying Lotus album was like that for me... was taken aback by all the colour in his sound, but a few listens to later I' love the whole album

of course, all of Bjork's music would probably fall under this too

Trim/James Blake confidence boost. Hated the pitched up vocals (still do). But the tune is good enough for me to get past it.

Didnt like Changes for ages meself, still think Mala's got much better tunes.

I find generally if something takes ages to fully get into, its also remains vital/ fresh for a long time once you're on it.
