Nicotine Apache - Behold[Darkstep - minimal]
Hey all, I just joined the forum - been making dubstep for about 2 years now but haven't taken it very seriously. I want to step up a gear now that my tracks are beginning to feel more professional.
Soundcloud
There is my latest tune. I'm aiming for the kind of early dubstep sound, that kind of Kryptic Minds/Burial kind of sound with this track.
Let us know what you think. Peace.

Snare/clap sound is very high frequency orientated, maybe think about layering to bring out the mids a bit more. Also the hi-hat programming could maybe do with a bit of a looser vibe on the programming, it feels very 'on-the-grid' at the moment.

Yeah see what you mean. I often layer my snares but on this one, I kept it simple. There's not a lot in that clap below 500hz and that was kind of intentional but I can understand your thinking.
The hats, I agree on though.
Thanks for the input wub. Appreciate the comment.

No worries, if you make any changes I'll be happy to give it another listen

I'm probably not going to change it. My method is once I've mastered it, it's done and I move onto the next one - which will be better than the last.
I'll keep posting up to this board though.

Cool intro, the feeling of dark alley behind the club somewhere in East London. I'd put more verb on hats. Sub's heavy and has nice melody, but a bit of release should be put on it, so it doesnt end so rapidly.
Synth on 1:50 isnt a bit loud? (May be not, I'm listening on shitty speakers right now) 2:20 amazing, love it here.
Nice tune mate

Hmm, maybe your speakers accentuate that frequency band or maybe mine have a dip there.. Could be my listening environment too. I've got a mate who's promised me some acoustic pads but I dunno what happened to that! I think I need to get hold of some really shit PC speakers to reference the mid-range.
I know exactly what you're getting at with the sub, there's a horrible whimpy little pop when you don't let it release or have a slow attack. I put a little attack at the beginning by enveloping the pitch a little, like a very faint 808 kick effect. Rather than counter-act the pop I decided to accentuate it. Might not have been the best decision but the way I've been taught, you make your decision and stick to it
Thanks for the feedback, really grateful and glad you like the sound.
