I still sometimes get the ecstacy of some old songs I like, but I get really bored of music I love after a few years. It's not that I hate it or love it any less, just sort of worn it out and I move on to the next thing. Kind "love" old music from a distance and just revisit it for 15 minutes every 6 months.
Well, I've been in a musical limbo for 3 years now and I really lost interest in new music while at the same time being really bored of everything I know. I want to hear new music and actively seek it out, but nothing really grabs my attention anymore and I turn it off after a few minutes. Full lengths don't grab me anymore and I just listen to a bunch of songs. New records by musicians I like don't do it for me and all the new music I hear sort of goes in one ear and leaves the other. Even new songs that totally blow me away within the first minute of hearing them, I turn them off after 2 minutes. Just get bored of them really quickly
I'm thinking of just clearing my hard drive and start fresh.
It's a shame, though. I miss getting enjoyment out of music but I can't. It's always been on my mind 24/7. I don't know how much of this is mood related. Last time I was 'up' was in 2010, which was also the last time I felt excited by music.
This isn't me asking for recommendations, obv. Just venting.

Basically just listen to everything Cardiacs have ever done, that always reaffirms my faith in music

shame to hear that. I am guessing it must have something more mood related as you said.
is there any kind of music you have never previously been into out of curiosity?

I feel like that sometimes.. Goes up and down though heh
I do think it has a lot to do with your mood.. Do you feel this way about other things or just music?
I've heard people who are very depressed say they can no longer enjoy anything that they used to.

Not really. I got into most stuff around the time I was 15. Listened to EVERYTHING, in the western sphere anyway and some south American music. Had my hip-hop phase growing up and then moved to most shit the 20th century had to offer.
I don't think I've like heard EVERYTHING. But I got sort of burned out. I think I get desenstized easily. Like how some people need more and more perverted porn.. I think I need more and more perverted music. And with really heavy and chaotic dark breakcore, I feel like I sort of gotten there. Noise is a "been there done that" king of thing, noiscore and lo-fi black metal too. Musique Concrète was fun when I was 15/16 too. Also had my grindcore/thrashcore phase. Mehhhh.

Oh yeah, I think life i ngeneral is realllly boring as hell :p But music was always a separate thing that I could always fall back onto. Now that's gone too. It could be the bipolar thing. But now that music doesn't do it for me anymore, it feels like the last thing got taken away

I think enjoyment of music is inextricably linked to imagination and setting, if you find yourself 'consuming' alot of music sat at the same place maybe staring at a computer screen in a fairly neutral state of emotion, your gonna start to associate music with that. Try goin on a long journey to somewhere new in a car or train or even walking, with a few specially prepared tracklists of old and new stuff, see if that helps.
Also the times i've felt like you are now have usually been times were i've had music on almost every waking moment and not been sleeping enough. Anything's gonna lose its magic when you fuckin marinade in it 24/7.

I know you don't want recommendations and have heard everything ever, but I'm loving Riot Season (label) at the mo, some real interesting stuff that I can't really categorize.
Don't like these songs/album? Fuck it, next, each one sounds like a totally different band
