I want to drop loot on a MIDI controller tonight! HOOK ME UP

Post by keycoda » Thu Jan 24, 2013 3:39 pm

Need sound advice. I'm trying to get an MPK49 when I get out of work. I've been a musician for about 15 years, already know whateverwhatever about recording and I've been looking into f'n around with Ableton. I need a controller I can work fast with. MPK49 seems legit, no? I might scoop one up for $185 on Craigslist tonight... what do you guys think? What do you guys like? Why?

yeah mpk49 is a solid keyboard. I personally dont have one (but all my midi controllers are akai) but from what i've heard they are built well and have weighted keys. have seen them used for live performances (foster the people) 185 seems like a steal to me as well. maybe someone else can chime in about the pads?

also welcome to DSF!! :h:

YEEE!! Thankya! I'm gonna scoop up the MPK49 after work for $200 bucks (some minor bidding), its new out of box. I also might get an APC40 for another $180. I just want something to kick start me in the right direction. I figured I'm probably gonna end up flipping this stuff for other things once I find out what I like and get to know this more.

As for the apc 40, ive heard stories about the faders. Just do a quick google search. 180 is a good deal though. If you mainly want to trigger clips, a novation launchpad might also be worth looking into. Its much more portable as well.
