Hey All,

I've been looking at getting some rack gear and own some for live purposes of other projects, compressors and whatnot. I use an M-Audio fast track pro that usb's into my computer to record any instruments, and thats all i have in the way of gear. So what my question is, what do I need to be able to use this rack gear on channel's in my DAW? I'm familiar with how it works when using a mixer in a standard studio setting but i don't have any of that, so i'm not sure how to proceed.

I am always interested in spending money on music... but the less i have to buy the better . Any advice would be great!

It's not really different with a computer. You DAWs mixer works the same, it just doesn't have physical audio I/Os....so you need an interface with audio I/Os. I really like my MOTU 828 MKii.

it's gonna be tough w/ the fast track pro as you only have 2 TRS outputs. but, you've got the insert ponts, so you can patch gear in-- or mult your outputs to do parallel processing. i'd stay away from using the RCA's, mainly because they're unbalanced.

so-- audio out from FSP--gear--back in through FSP. you can only do 2 channels at a time.

Oh dude! I feel stupid now... i should have realized this hah. I'll hook the gear up to that for now, but like the dude above was talking about, i'll probably upgrade and get a rack i/o.

You could also get a mixer and route the master output to the fast track audio ins. But at that point you might as well get a decent interface and mix in your DAW IMO.

can anyone explain how i would go about using the inserts on the ftp, i made an attempt but had no success by following these instructions i found online.

To use inserts in FTP, you need to get a 1/4 Y-cable. A stereo tip on one side and two mono tips onthe other. The stereo tip goes into one of the insert jacks (the jacks are in/out at once), and then you have to try which mono tip on the other side will work as send and which will be return. Label them accordingly, and you're good to go. Another Y-cable and you can use the other insert jack to feed the other signal.

Do i need two insert cables?? im kinda lost, the reason i want to know is i would like to try to hook up my efx to my setup. Any advice would be

Well first, what the f is the FTP? But if you want to use an insert FX generally you only need one insert y cable.
