Plugin Delay Compensation, basically ableton has audio compensated correctly (it seems, go check their forums, this shit goes nuts over there) but midi and the visual aspect of the software isn't compensated. So for example, load LFOTool or one of those kind of plugins in a channel after a vst that induces latency and you'll see it doesn't work properly.
Automation isn't compensated either so you're blind automating, if you have plugins that add latency, where you draw your automation lines won't be where the automation actually is being done, because this isn't compensated in Live, it may be silly when you're just starting a project, but it really fucks up when you have loads of channels already.
Also the interface isn't compensated so you can't edit audio properly when you have plugins that add latency, if you try it yourself you'll see it. Add a sample, and load some vsts that add latency on it, then hit play. You'll see that the bar (the vertical one, the one that indicates song position) passes over the sample and when it shouldn't be playing anything it still is playing the sample... total workflow killer.
According to Ableton this happens cause they prioritize the "Live" aspect of it, and they do this to reduce latency when monitoring (so you can play live), that's what they'll tell you. The truth is, they don't want to add a "production mode" and a "live mode" in order to fix this, because they just don't know how to do it, the code is a mess, lots of old code going around and they lost programmers that left onto bitwig.
Just look at the update, they just added Max4Live into ableton, thats it. The automation curves work like shit from what i've read, they're really bad, and the audio to midi is bad too, it cant get even single notes correctly (you'll do it quicker by ear), and the CPU usage is even higher on 9.
Hope bitwig destroys them for not giving a fuck on their customers.

Yeah without PDC Ableton is really lagging behind. Most other major DAWs have had it for years! It would only be fair to fix it for anyone who owns Live 8, instead they're just releasing a new broken DAW. I might torrent 9 to see what it's like, but i certainly won't support a company that ignores a 59 page thread on their forum. The lack of proper PDC is the reason people have been saying their mixes don't sound as good on Ableton as the automation is slipping out of time.
It'll be interesting to see what Bitwig is like. Some of the features look way beyond Ableton - such as the ability to keep the DAW running when a plugin crashes. They also have dual monitor support, online collaboration and various other interesting features.
Live 9 doesn't really add much - clip automation is nice. Automation curves are good but i hear they're not that flexible? Couldn't care any less about a new compressor, yawn! And as for Push, looks nice but why doesn't it work with Live 8? So they can sell their new DAW. What a joke!

Yeah ableton really didn't put a lot of effort on this release, I've been on the beta for quite a while and its not that great, there some nice things like the glue and the convolution reverb but this just feels like an 8.5, and if you take account that this took 3 years its just ridiculous, people are going mental on the beta forum cause all the request have been ignored and the are still a lot of bugs everywhere, it just seems that ableton is focused on their beloved push controller and left the software side in secondary plane.
I just upgraded cause there was this price confusion at the beginning and I got live really cheap cause of that, any other way i would have skipped this version, I'm hoping logic x and bitwig brinsg some things that make ableton work harder

I bought the upgrade when it cost €164 from Live 8 to Live Suite + free upgrade to Live 9. Then after one day they bumped up the upgrade price to €250 or something. I've been using the beta for a while now. It's ok, nothing special. If I had missed the 'too low' price I probably wouldn't upgrade. My main issue with it is the CPU usage which hasn't improved at all. There are some nice things like the new browser and of course M4L (Suite only).
