since i work in a callcenter, i get calls from all over the US from all the different areas. im just curious what your opinion is on accents in the states and who is the hardest to understand. or perhaps the most annoying.
i think georgia and louisiana and those real southern thick accents are rough. most annoying probably goes to wisconsin area. like that movie fargo. just goofy.
the only thing about accents outside the states that i know is that there are tons of different ones. dialects right?

minnesota is the worst, i can understand people from the south quite well, no matter how deep the accent is.... boston is kinda neat sounding too

i didnt say a favorite. id say the area i live in has a very subtle accent. around philadelphia and delaware and west chester. its subtle, but neat.

There's some scottish woman that keeps ringing up work and seems to pronounce A, E and I as "ayee". Which is a tad confusing, especially as she seems to get quite angry when I ask her which letter she means - learn to speak properly and it wouldn't be an issue love, yeah?

I'm absolutely lost sometimes when people ring up from Birmingham, no offence to people on here from there but really thick Brum accents can be impossible to understand sometimes.

i dont even know exactly what kind you are talking about. but all i know is i cannot make out a lot of accents from that general area of the world. i always feel so bad asking people to repeat themselves, but whatever. people gotta realize they have accents that may be thick and hard to understand so you need to speak clearly. they tend to just talk real fast and if asked to repeat get all heated.

I had a mate from Brum who's family had emigrated from rural Ireland - for such a smart bloke he did have the stupidest sounding voice ever. Mind you, there's a lot of very thick, posh folk who people seem to think are more intelligent than they are.

Yeah, odd that about Brum accents. The stupid character in British cartoons often used to have a Brummie accent. I rather like it myself.

i dont know if it is a specific type of english accent, but a friend of mine from there came to visit me for 2 weeks and stayed with me.....after listening to his accent for that long, it just annoyed me. all english accents. i hated them. now 2 yrs late i think im just used to it. its kind of amusing. everything sounds more appealing in that accent.

I have a great accent, it's called:
Talking real low and mumbling a hell of a lot.
No-one ANYWHERE seems to understand it
Apart from sound engineers : this appears to be the official language of mix engineers around the world, in my experience. There were four of us in my last studios, 3 mumblers and a stammerer. We could all chat away about B.S. engineer geek stuff quite happily, everyone else was like: What tha F*** was THAT all about I didn't understand a word!!!!
I blame the constant lack of sleep.
And If I ever appear in a film or TV program:
SUBTITLES REQUIRED PLEASE

a lot of times im the same way. i am told i mumble a hell of a lot. and i dont like to pronunciate unless im trying to explain something important. i have the worst hearing though so anything anyone says i will usually ask you to repeat about 3 times before i get all of it. loud music will do that to ya i guess. and im lazy with paying attention to what people say.
but if you throw in a mumbler with a heavy weird accent, shit...itll take me all day to understand one word. i just had a call like that. he hung up on me cuase i had him repeat himself about 15 times. he was asian by the way....hardest to understand to me.

I moved to Missouri from so-cal (dude), so I really trip out on the Missouri accent.
the people here speak as if they were from the southern states, but they arent.
for example...
instead of pronouncing the name of the state properly, the call it "Missourahh"
I almost lose it everytime I hear that.
and the city of "Nevada, Missouri" is pronounced "NEE-VAY-DUH" instead of "na-va-da" like the state
and there used to be a town here called Raleigh, like in North Carolina, right???
well the renamed the town "Rolla" because the bumpkins couldn't say Raleigh
no joke
great representation on the I.Q. of the folks that live here
